Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

They're keeping Kath & Kim and canceling My Own Worst Enemy.

Why does that seem so backwards to me?

Both are on my reserve list to watch during re-runs. Well, Enemy is now in the Recycle Bin.

Probably Enemy had a big budget and did poorly in the ratings, where Kath & Kim isn't doing much better but is probably MUCH cheaper to make.

But it sure is strange that NBC can't get out of 4th place. They used to be THE network. At this point they probably need to just dump everything and start from scratch. Kill all the Law & Orders and old stuff, avoid shows that skew too young or are too over the top and unrealistic, and just roll out a ton of new shows. They don't have anything to lose at this point.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

Ok, Brent is keeping much faster pace than me - http://www.geektonic.com/2008/11/bub...isies-eli.html

SO now we're losing Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money. I'm recording Daisies and money, so that sucks.

Worse, Daisies ends on a cliffhanger (anyone remember Jericho). You'd think any show that records more than one season should include a budget for a wrapup show.

So, my list for this year so far of canceled shows:
Jericho
Dirt
4400
Riches
Bionic Woman
Journeyman
New Amsterdam
My Own Worst Enemy
Pushing Daisies
Dirty Sexy Money

And Shows in their final seasons
The Shield
Battlestar Galactica (although spinoffs possible)

Shows on the bubble
Chuck
Terminator
Life
Crusoe (still haven't watched more than one episode)
Worst Week
Heroes

So, not at all happy in tvland. Looks like I'm starting to lose more shows than I'm picking up.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

My wife was ticked about this last batch of cancellations. She watches all three of them (Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies and most of all Eli Stone).

None of them were on my must-see list, but I would consider all three of those shows better than many that are surviving...

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

Digg has a suggestion that we start a letter writing campaign to get Greys Anatomy canceled. I say we do Knight Rider while we're at it.

Hell, I'd be happy to go after the reality shows.

I I understand that most of us make that niche portion of the mass tv viewers (the ones with no pvr or tivo/directv etc) but I always hope for a small niche in programming. For the networks, I'd hope that they cancel 2 crappy shows for every good one, this year its much lower, almost 1 to 1. Cable networks (FX, USA etc) make this up but even they are cancelling good shows. The Riches and 4400 were excellent, whiel some of what they keep is borderline.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

What is wrong with Grey's? It's not a favorite show of mine but it beats Private Practice. A little over the top at times but entertaining if the story is good.

Pushing Dasies was good until the writer's strike.

King of the Hill is great. Sorry to see that one go.

Love Swingtown, we hope it goes to cable. Jericho rocked!

With dvr technology and all the video delivery systems available it looks like the rating system is a bust. Who are they polling to decide what shows to drop? I watched Jericho twice on the web and once on Universal HD and the last season on CBS.

I am tired of dancing with the Stars, Idol and pretty much any reality show out there.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

Grey's Anatomy sucks because:

1) Nobody ever changes or grows. They are all horribly damaged people.
2) Everyone acts like women on their periods. Even the "men".

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

It TOTALLY sucks that Pushing Daisies is cancelled. I've signed the petition for whatever help that may do. There was some talk on rewriting the last episode as a non-cliffhanger. I do like what Bryan Fuller said about possibly ending the series in comic book form with an option to do a full-length movie. That's the same thing that Joss Whedon did with Firefly/Serenity.

I also believe this is the final season for Prison Break.

I still can't believe Kath & Kim is still airing. What dribble! But I guess that's what America likes.

I watch Knight Rider, but would not miss it if got cancelled.

King Of The Hill may get picked up by ABC.

The only Reality (Reality? really?) Show I watch is The Amazing Race. Wife likes all the dancing shows.

BTW, we were a Neilson Family back in the late '90's early 2000's.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

I forgot Prison Break, yes, this is supposed to be their last season, I predict they all end up in prison.

Funny story, I heard they originally asked for like 22 episodes and got them, then decided they only needed 18 to finish the show, but now Fox insists they use the full 22. Maybe they'll introduce a story arch about some fiendish girl and boyfriend no one ever noticed before, who stole some diamonds and in the end get buried alive after being bit by paralyzing spiders. That'll teach them.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

My God....

any show that is intelligent and makes you think is getting the axe. Any show that's stupid, pointless, T&A, or has absolutely no redeeming value is getting kept.

Yep, that just proves that American culture is going straight in to the toilet.

(Personally, I think Eli Stone is getting the axe because of its time slot. Why in hades is it not a prime time show? It should be on at 8:00, not 10:00 on a Tuesday! No wonder it's failing!)

My "must watch" TV week consists of Sara Conner Chronicles, Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Heroes, Eli Stone, My Own Worst Enemy, and Smallville. I feel betrayed that they're pulling half those shows out from under me.

Every digital cable box, cable company DVR, and TiVo has the ability to track what you watch, but Nielson only tracks shows watched live, not viewings of recorded content.

Of course, sites like Hulu don't even count in the ratings game.

Personally, I think it's time for a new ratings system. Actually, I think it's time to drop broadcast tv completely and shift entirely to web-delivered content like Hulu and iTunes.

Recorded shows are tracked at the time of the recording. What they weren't able to track was when we actually watched that show. When we were a Nielson Family, we had 3 VCRs going at the time, every thing that we watched and recorded was submitted to the ratings. They were able to track when we watched TV and when we watched VCR recordings, but not what those recordings were.

Re: Cancelled shows and shows in danger

I literally just started watching Las Vegas, when James Caan was on and think the show is great. Don't know how it is now with Tom Selleck, but now I've read they're cancelling the show and they won't even end it gracefully.
The forums on NBC have everyone totally pi**ed about it ending.

What do you think of the current characters on the show?

Reality shows generally suck. American Idol we watch in the beginning for all of the idiots that think they can sing, otherwise dancing with the stars I'm glad is almost over.
