Sites for Downloading shows?

There used to be sites all over the place that you could download old and even newer shows from. Some would allow streaming, others, you just DL'ed the show and watched at your convience. Anyone know of a site like that now. I am looking for the show Farscape to be specific, and others as well.

Re: Sites for Downloading shows?

fyi, this is a touchy subject between legitimate sites and illegal sites, so please keep the topic on legal sites that allow downloads of shows like www.southparkstudios.com

I thought website operators could not be held liable for posts made by individuals.

Re: Sites for Downloading shows?

Correct, and even though CDA section 230 safe harbors protects the site from liability for content written by users, that doesn't mean that sites won't still try to sue Snapstream as we've seen companies do time and time again. Snapstream is just doing a CYA scenario. The companies will always try to go after the one's they think will have the "deeper pockets".

EDIT: Remember, CDA Section 230, is a US law, it won't protect them from foreign companies trying to sue them.

Re: Sites for Downloading shows?

Another legal option is Netflix's Watch Now, but Farscape isn't in there yet. In fact, Season 1 of Farscape was recalled by the producer of the dvd's for a relaunch of the set.

Re: Sites for Downloading shows?

I download several shows regularly..... from Amazon.com and iTunes. I suggest you check them out, they might have what you want...legally. For instance, iTunes has Farscape season 1 and 2.

Re: Sites for Downloading shows?

I know this won't really help, but thanks to Beyond TV and some other older PVR apps, I have a nice collection of all my favorite Sci-Fi shows.

But all of them were done with TV captures off cable TV. The earliest ones (original Star Trek and first seasons of FarScape, Babylon 5, etc. were done with a software mpeg video capture card. And I have to admit the quality of those are a tad better than the newer episodes captured with a capture card with on-board hardware mpeg encoding.

The old ATI All In Wonder capture cards were just much more configurable than most of todays hardware based capture cards. Used a ton of processor but the end result was outstanding.

But back to your situation. A year or so ago, I found one network airing the Farscape episodes in digital format. I was really excited because they were in digital and 720 resolution wide screen (if I remember) But then after several episodes, they changed to 480 and a 4:3 aspect ratio. And then about 1/2 way through a season, they stopped completely.

So you may find it showing up from time to time. Get into your SnapStream.net account and set up and save a search for each of your favorites. Some day you might be surprised and find it airing. I did that with a movie I was looking for. Almost a year later, it magically appeared in my recordings folder.
