ATI TV Wonder 650 or FusionHDTV5 RT Gold more compatible w BTV?
I'm looking to replace my ATi All-in-Wonder Radeon 9600 Pro video card and install a PCI HDTV tuner card.
I tried the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 and didn't like it, so now I'm looking at the new ATI TV Wonder 650 and the DVICO FusionHDTV5 RT Gold. Do they both have proven compatibility with BTV on WinXP Pro or does one do a little better than the other? Thank you! Tim |

I can't really answer your question for you, but I have a question of my own. What don't you like about the Hauppauge 1600? I had the AiW 9600 in an old computer and loved it coupled with BTV (3.5 at the time). I just bought the HVR1600 and got the PVR150 in a bundle package when I bought BTV 4.6 and have been fairly impressed with them. Just curious as to what you don't like about the 1600 and as to others' comparisons with the other tuners you mentioned. I plan on building a 6 tuner rig (2 HD 4 analog) in the near future and your input, plus that of others, would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ATI TV Wonder 650 or FusionHDTV5 RT Gold more compatible w BTV?
I didn't try the 1600 with BTV, so I was just using it out of the box for a couple hours. For the most part, the card did a super job tuning our local HDTV channels even with a splitter and some 90 feet of RG6 between my OTA antenna and the card. What I wasn't so fond of was the user interface - it just wasn't as intuitive as it could've been and the manual was pretty minimal.
I guess I've just been spoiled from using ATi All-in-Wonder cards for the last 5 or 6 years. Based on what I've been able to find, I think I'd like the FusionHDTV5, but I've never seen the user interface or seen it in action. Perhaps I won't like it any more than the HVR-1600. I'd appreciate any comments. |

both cards will work with BTV, I actually like the HVR-1600.

Re: ATI TV Wonder 650 or FusionHDTV5 RT Gold more compatible w BTV?
Thanks for the input. I may have to go re-buy the HVR-1600.
I've got DVI-D going from my Radeon 9800 Pro to our family room Mitsubishi LT-46131 and the picture looked on par with the component input from our Comcast DCT-3416 DVR. I didn't see if there was a way to bring up a program guide and select viewing/recording using the HVR-1600. I'm assuming that's what BTV takes care of. Is that correct? |
