HTPC of the Month - VEALINK'S "CarPuter"

Introducing the "CarPuter" - VEALINK -- Los Angeles, CA

The guys at VEALINK have taken the PC to the next level. They now offer a line of CarPuters equipped with 10.4" and 7" touchscreen multimedia PCs. These PCs have been equipped with Beyond Media, and Firefly remote.

Owner of VEALINK, Ryan Russell, recently stated, "This system has [a] Verizon Wireless EVDO network card so high speed internet can be achieved anywhere Verizon has service. The average speed is 300k-500k and peeks at 2mb. At these speeds we stream music form spotlight and even video from the internet in a moving vehicle."

Living in L.A. county, Ryan works often with high profile movie stars and athletes who have recently grown accustomed to the systems. For more information on VEALINK, please visit http://www.vealink.com.

That is one sweet setup! Do you know if he has problems with the vibrations from the road and car and the operation of the system (hard drive)?

The system has viberation mounts to protect the system. We actually had systems without the viberation mounts and had no problems with the hard drive even after 3 years.

This very sweet. My woman thinks its hot too. I'm glad you are using the skinning engine to customize the logo. How extensive are the customizations?

Yes it is. There used to be an xbox in this vehicle but the PC is more fun to play with.

Is there a way to change which browser this uses, e.g. Firefox?

If you right-click on any Windows application, you are able to add that program to Beyond Media's main menu. This will allow you to launch Firefox from the main menu of Beyond Media.

I personally use firefox. For the picture the IE is more popular.

Thanks for the answer, but it seems that the word "Internet" in the sidebar is linked to IE, and I guess E-mail to Outlook Express. I was wondering if I could change that, similar to changing the default browser in Windows XP.

Either way, it's nice to be able to add it to the main menu, but I'd have to figure out how to get something other than Verizon in the car before I even think about using the Internet in the car anyway. Why? Verizon is $80 a month for unlimited transfer, while T-Mobile offers slightly slower (although, the same speed as Verizon in my area) speeds for $30 a month.

Thanks for the response.

One question. For such exquisite clients and high end systems. Couldn't you at least have hidden the 'shortcut' arrow on the oversized icons?
