alternative remote live stream control

I use Snapstream on a HTPC connected on my network to my desktop PC, I use the web admin tool to start the live tv stream and change the channels then media player to watch it through my network.

I would very much like to start live tv (streaming) on a channel and change channels by some other means than through the web admin. Ideally i'd like to run a html link, or something similar with the channel id to start snapstream streaming on that channel, then i'd use media player to open the stream seperately.

Any way to do this? I'd like to eventually parse an xml file of a tv guide and use it to link to snapstream to start streaming that channel and watch it in mediaplayer. If anyone could help me that would be great, looking at putting the tv guide (link to stream) on my desktop (active desktop).
