On 5/29/03, SnapStream released a statement about its partnership with Shuttle. The statement said SnapStream would be free to Shuttle XPC consumers. I saved a copy of this press release for reference.
I have been in correspondance with Shuttle and SnapStream over the 4 months of the unfulfilled promise and only Shuttle has responded. Shuttle has consistently stated they were waiting on SnapStream to deliver the product. Giving the 9 month delay on 3.0, I can understand a little bit of a delay on sending Shuttle its product to ensure its quality, but not 4 months. Please tell me if SnapStream intends to honor its promise of delivering SnapStream to Shuttle so they can offer it to their XPC consumers. If so, when?? If not, why not? |

If anyone is interested, a copy of the press release from Shuttle (why is it not listed on the Snapstream website?) is here. Specificly, it lists the following Shuttle products as being eligable for a special version of SnapStream 3: SV24, SV24, SS50, SS40G, SS51G, SB51G, SK41G, SN41G2, SN45G, and SB61G2.
As my free trial is running out in a couple of days, I'm definately interested in my free copy. Please don't force me to go back to the copy of SageTV I had already bought.. Last edited by Yang; 09-25-2003 at 10:36 AM. |

I should point out, that I never got a copy of SS with my XPC. When I made my PVR I wanted to get the Hauppaugue PVR-350, which SS didn't support at the time, so I went with SageTV, now that they do support my card, I downloaded the trial version which is just about to expire.

I agree, SnapsStream need to step up for the XPC owners it had left hanging. SnapStream had mentioned once that they were still hoping to have some kind of bundling but upon asking for further details, nothing has happened. In addition, Shuttle sent me the following email on July 28th:
Thank you for the email. We are sorry that since the news announced on Shuttle website, Snapstream has delayed the software for 2 month and fail to deliver what they are promised . Because Snapstream now is unable to deliver an excellent deal to our XPC customers and in order to continue to benefit all XPC customers, we, Shuttle Computer is currently in negotiation with Snapstream to get a better bundle deal. At current time, the previous bundle deal has been canceled. If you want to try the Snapstream software, you can log on to www.snapstream.com for trial version download. Thank you all for your understanding, |

While everyone is banging on SS has anyone considered that the cause for delay is Shuttle ? These types of "partnerships" almost always work like this.
partnerA (SS) agrees to provide product X to partnerB (shuttle) at x reduced price and they will call it a bundle. Now what happens if partnerB fails to pay partnerA as agreed ? SS isn't providing the product for free so if there is a breakdown in the payment SS is under no obligation to provide the product for free, they need to survive to. Now I am not saying this is what happened, but it is a likely possibility. |

I think everyone is banging on SS because they've said nothing on the subject and continue to ignore requests for more information. Shuttle on the other hand has said to atleast two people that they are waiting on SS to provide the product, so until proven otherwise, it seems that SS is the cause of the delay.
I'd be more than willing to help pressue shuttle if someone from SS would give me a reason to. |

I agree that "partnerships" are exactly that. That being said, why is Shuttle sending users that registered the email I posted above? Also, why is SnapStream being extremely quiet?
I haven't heard them say that the problem was at Shuttle's end. Have you? |

No I haven't .. I also know that very few companies will publicaly comment about difficulties with partnerships.
SS publicaly stating that the problem with shuttle does permanant damage to whatever relationship is there. One must remember that in business those companies that are not quick to accuse others or publicaly criticize another is a trademark quality. It is a sound PR move to remain quiet until they have a definitive resolution rather then point the finger at Shuttle which still won't satisify users and only start a downward spiral of hate posts. |

You're right, the press releases were very confusing. When I see "bundle", I think full version free or at least a feature limited version. I don't think time limited. I've got a "bundled" version of Norton Ghost that only works with the Epox motherboard it was bundled with. It's not time limited or feature limited, it's computer limited. I can't use it on any machine other than the Epox.
If the intention was to have a time limited version, that should have been clearly and explictly stated in the Press Release or at least in the registration online. I tried the time limited version on my new XPC when I got it built but my video card wasn't up to snuff. I uninstalled PVS within two hours and then about a month later, I wanted to try PVS again because I had gotten a new video card and couldn't because my trial had expired. After speaking with support, I was told that there was no way to extend the trial version so I'm out of luck. |

With the 3.3 release the trial period will be reset so that you can evauluate PVS again.
I appreciate your understanding and apologize for not replying earlier. I don't want to post any statements that I can't backup. I spoke with key people inolved with the Shuttle deal and know that we are still planning on having the special version released.
