Best Setting for DVD quality Recording

I got myself a nice new DVD burner and was wondering what is the best setting to save a movie into true DVD formate?

I took NTSC DVD Ready Hi-Res, changed the video bitrate to 7000000 and saved it as a custom. That is what I record everything in.

Then if I want to just save to HD I will recompress it. If I want to archive to DVD or SVCD I will use that MPEG as the source.

I am new to SS though and I haven't actually burned any DVD or SVCDs yet so you may want to get some other feedback here on the forum.

I posted this same question though already:

I use the DVD High Res also but my bit rate is set at 4 MB. At that bit rate you can put about 2 hours of video on a DVD. They look pretty good to me. I set up a VBR quality the other day with a min of 3 MB and a Max of 8 MB, The resulting file was smaller, the 2 hour movie I recorded was about 2.5 Gig. It does not look quite as good as the constant 4 MB, but it didn't look all that bad.

Yeah, I may have to play with the bit rate a bit. I'm still trying to learn my way around the system.

I need to figure out how to make certain shows record at different bitrates into different folders, things like that.

Diff Folders

The only way to currently get recordings to go into different folders and override the bitrates is:

1) Setup the recording
2) Go to Recordings on the Web Admin
3) Edit the Scheduled Recording (right click on the title)
4) Edit the "Advanced Information"

I hope this override capability gets added to the scheduler.

Yeah, I was talking about for repeated showings.

I can setup an individual folder and record setting for them if needed.
