IR Blaster
Hi,
I've seen the IR Blaster on the product accessories page. Does anyone know if it works with Comcast Motorola Digital Cable Boxes? I've searched for my model number on groups.google.com, but it's not been discussed. Maybe Comcast has an OEM version of the box, so the model number differs from the "standard model #". Anyway, how does th IR Blaster work? Does it come with a separate program/driver to configure the remote? Does only snapstream control the blaster, or are there additional programs that could program the blaster to do multiple things? |

Basically it should work for any cable box that you can use a universal remote controll with.
Please see this community page for more information: http://www.snapstream.com/Community/...externaltuners In short the device acts like a universal remote, it is attached via a comport and using a program learns the commands of your remote then snapstream uses what the software learned to emulate your remote control. You could also look into using girder to drive the blaster then you could have girder take input from other programs and drive it. |

I use the Actisys IRBlaster with a Motorola Comcast receiver without problems. I setup HERemote (see this thread) and it works great. http://discuss2.snapstream.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=8005
When I first set it up it tunned the channels with about 50% accuracy, but then I retrained the buttons using quick button presses as the TVScheduler site mentions and it's working 99.9% of the time. I haven't played around with moving the IR Blaster closer to the cable box yet though. This may take care of the problem. The only other problem that I had was trying to put two receivers near each other. I have one dedicated to my PVR and the other for normal TV viewing while a recording is taking place. I had to an enclosure of VHS tapes and board game boxes so the PVR receiver couldn't see the signals from the regular comcast remote. I think it's mostly because the top of the receiver is full of vent holes that lets the light pass right into it and hit the IR receiver so it's not as easy to issolate as just blocking the front of it. Hope this helps.
