Split S-video signal?

OK, here's my situation:

I have one TV (along with my computer, monitor etc.) in my entertainment room, but that is in between 2 bedrooms, so can get difficult to use late at night. I also have another TV just outside the room, through a wall. What I want to do is buy an RF remote (which will easily get the required range), split the S-video signal from the PC, plug one end into my current TV, and transmit the other wirelessly to the other TV where it would be used just as if it were the local TV.

Is this possible at all, and if so, how? If not, is there any way to make it work? And, in my eternal quest to save money, is my WinTV remote compatible with remote extenders? (as this is what I use to control all my apps)

Thanks for your responses.

I do something similar.

I feed the svideo signal into an active s-video splitter, one going direct to my projector and the other going to an RF modulator via a s-video to composite converter.

All you need to do is have a video sender rather than the modulator i would think...

OK, thanks. If I buy an X10 wireless video transmitter, does anyone know whether or not I will be able to use the WinTV remote with the IR remote extender?

Here's my suggestion.. this is what I have done, and it works flawlessly.

first of all, wireless will result in too much of a loss of quality...

find some way to run wires.. I ran mine in the walls, up into the attic and back down..

Radioshack has a very resonably priced 4 input 2 output Svideo/component switchbox (also has optical sound and L/R stereo inputs / outputs) this box does wonders, it has it's own built in amplifier for the svideo, so it looks great on both TV's..

personally, I run my LD/DVD player and my HTPC into it.. and can then watch whatever I want to in the other room.. be it movies recorded via snapstream, DVD's or LD's. This box also has the ability to switch what input it's using via infrared remote signals.. ie u pressing power on the DVD's remote... or whatever else u want it to know..

i'd check it out for sure

beyond,

can you post the part # for that component AV switcher? most AV switchers that do component cost quite a pretty penny, so a rack shack slution would be most welcome

You're right about wireless. It does result in a considerable loss of quality, but I don't particularly want to punch holes in my wall to conceal more cabling. I can use an RF modulator, however, since I do have coaxial cables running through the wall. But doing that would be extremely complicated, as both coax cables are in use carrying different signals. One carries my satellite reciever's signal and the other, my cable signal. The problem is the way they are set up. I'll explain in more detail:

Both coax cables run from outside and enter through the room containing the outside TV. The wires come out of a hole in the wall here. The cable wire is split into two using a splitter; one end goes to the outside TV, the other carries on inside where it is further split so one end goes into the TV and the other into the PC. The satellite wire does come out out here, and has a break where it is connected back to itself, but where a splitter can be installed if necessary.

Now, to use either wire, I'd have to send the signal upstream against the splitters; to do so using the (much more convenient) cable wire would entail doing so with 2 splitters and sending it up one wire and back down the second with a further one. I have no idea whether or not this is possible; could someone please tell me if it is, if so how, and if not, suggest an alternative?

Thanks a lot. I realise this is only vaguely SS related, but anyway...

Yeah, that sounds simple enough, only I'd have to drive the cables up and down walls and around corners, avoiding doors, pillars, windows etc, with no convenient holes in the wall to pull the fish tape through. Apparently it just wasn't designed for upgrading. Anyhow, I will give it a try. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
