video frame freezes in recording every 30 secs

Hi
I am recording PAL (UK) programs at "near VHS" quality.
The picture is pretty good but I have one major problem. Every 20-30 seconds the frame freezes. The sound continues and after about 2-3 seconds the video continues.

It is not the playback and is definietely caused by the recording. My guess is that either it is my pc emptying the memory to disk or some kind of frame recalc error (maybe the software only works great for NTSC not PAL)

Does anyone have any suggestions - I have tried both 25 and 30
fps but it still happens.

I have a Hauppagge Win PCI card and a 1 meg PC.

Like I said, the video is not jerky at all, oinly the freeze frame problem so I dont think it is a performance issue unless it is related to RAM emtying out.

Im thinking you mean 1ghz machine? In which case you should be looking at the CPU usage and your quality settings. If your running the processor right on the limit, anything firing in the background is going to cause frames to drop. Hit Crtl-Alt-Del and click the performance tab to check CPU usage whilst watching live tv. Without more detailed hardware specs its kinda difficult to help further.

after the freeze mine always continues ok.


I have not tried at lower compression levels.
