Question best TV card?

What does everybody out there think is the best TV tuner card? I currently have an ATI TV Wonder VE and am trying to figure out if I can get a better picture quality from a better tuner card.

ok an acronym and a number but hell. It is the best damn output you will get short of getting an hdtv signal and finding someway of dumping it directly to your harddrive

a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 but round here we call them pvr250's

I second that! I have an 8500DV that I was using, and it was no where near as good as my new pvr250.

Software encoding simply can't compete with hardware. Hauppauge 250.

Robert,

You seem to be the resident expert around here. What about the WinTV Digital model 697? Does anyone know how I can get the Comcast digital cable channels or do I need to hook up through my digital cable box? Is the PVR205 still the best overall?

Thank you.

SS doesnt support ANY digitial tuners, if you want to record from digital cable you will have to hook the cable box upto a regular tuner or a hardware tuner (pvr250/350/ adaptec videoh) see the support page:
http://www.snapstream.com/Products/P...VS3_SysReq.asp

and then use one of the ir blasters or a serial cable to control the channel changing on the cable box

This is what I do.. .getting the IR Blaster's to work is a little tricky with some boxes, ie mine.. heh.. I have a motorola DCT2000 digital cable box.. ends up that it's Bit Rate is an odd one, at 489 (which is one u have to actually find, as it's not published) I'd recommend using HE Remote, the author Bob is a great guy, who is more than willing to help out his users as well.. (thanks bob! )

HE Remote IS DA BEST

I second that as I also have the IR200 and the Motorola DCT2000. HE Remote is (nearly) FLAWLESS with this setup. I say nearly because I did miss a few channel changes when my IR200 was 5 feet away. Since I added a serial port extension cable, my remote is 2 inches from the Cable Boxe's receiver, and I haven't missed a change since.

HE Remote rocks!!! I will definitely be making a donation to its author.

Would anyone recommend the PVR 350 over the 250... I know snapstream doesn't support the hardware decoding right now but for future support i was wondering if you all think it would be worth it?

Just an FYI - picked up a PVR 250 at Circuit City today - $149 w/ $50 of rebates for final price of $99.

See Circuit City here...
