Programming Updates ?

My question relates to programming updates.
How often is the programming updated?

Once a program is selected to be recorded -- for instance all new episodes of a program -- and then the program is pre-emped or the schedule changed:
Does it know not to record what is pre-empting the program?
Does it know when to record the program at its new time?

I think that TiVo's program guide is updated several times during the day and if a change in programming happens it knows to change the recording to match the program changge.

Because our data providers only update their source files once a day, we only update our program guides at most once a day--users have the option of triggering manual updates should their databases get corrupted or they reinstall, etc. but the data sent from the servers only changes once a day.
