removable hard drive

ok here goes. i drive a truck for a living, has anyone considered having two systems running one at home online and on sat tv, the other on my existing pc in truck. then when i get home swapping out my two 180gig firewire drives so i can record all stuff i want to watch, then trade places with the hard drives, taking all new recordings with me to watch in truck, leaving now empty drive on system at home, so can fill it up with new recordings for next trip. imean what is going to happen when i swap drives and resart system is it going to freak out and crash when library changes or will it simply update to reflect what is now on the attached hard drive. thanks any help would be really cool.

I manually move files in and out of my video folder all the time (by manually I mean by not doing it in the full screen UI). And upon re-entering the video library, it always seems to bounce right back and properly reflect all the changes I'd made.

Now, I've never tried the scenario you talk about, but I'd guess that as long as your two drives have identical folder paths to the location where Personal Video Station 3 is looking for your recordings, than I'd assume that it'd just be a more extreme case of the same thing that I've been doing with success.

Of course, this is all in theory--perhaps another tester has done precisely what you're describing?

Re: removable hard drive

Yes I am trying to do the same thing.
But with no success.
I would like some one at Beyond Media to come up with a proceedure
for replaceing the hard drive.
Even though the new drive has the same directory structure and
volume name.
When I replace my hard drive it
crashes Beyond TV so bad that I
have to go through the entire setup process
including tunning the channels and everything.
There should be a way to replace the drive
without have to go through a basic reinstall of the software.

Re: removable hard drive

I would create a custom postprocessing batch file that moves them to which ever drive was present. Each drive will have a separate drive letter so it wouldn't be that hard.

This is just an example, not working code. The paths will have to be changed to fit you individual settings.

Code:
If exist m:\ goto MDRIVE
If exist N:\ goto NDRIVE
exit

MDRIVE
move c:\SNAPSTREAM\VIDEOS\*.mpg M:\
exit

NDRIVE
move c:\SNAPSTREAM\VIDEOS\*.mpg N:\
exit
