ATI TV Wonder VE problems

Guys,

I just got an ATI TV Wonder VE card this past week to play with (I have a 8500DV as my main capture card)..

Anyhow, I have this in a different PC (from the 8500DV) running Windows XP and I read on a message board (here?) that using the drivers from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ that you can get higher resolution out of the card in addition to stereo.. Well, I installed these drivers using the auto detect and it detected the card properly, but I'm having some wierd issues..

Using ShowShifter to view the live signal (I'm slowing coming around to SnapStream, but I installed ShowShifter since I know it well), I'm getting black and white video..

Also, when it tuned, it did so REALLY fast and did not detect several channels.

Is there some secret to installing these drivers?? Should I use ATI's drivers? Anyone point me in the right direction?

Paul

Sounds like you didnt choose the right country when installing the drivers. Rubn the driver installer again, and on the second screen after the autodetect card screen, there are options to select your country code and TV standard.

Has ATI changed something in the cards themselves? I went back and I'm sure I selected the right country when I did the install...

When using the drivers from ATI, it tunes fine... Of course, no stereo. One of the reasons I got it is because I read that stereo could be "unlocked" with these drivers.

Does the latest version of the btWinCap drivers have trouble with these ATI TV Wonder cards?

Another though.. Noticed that it takes DirectX8, but I have 9 installed..

Anyone successfully running the btWinCap drivers with directX9?

Ok - Found the main problem.. The BtInstaller isn't autodetecting the tuner for the TV Wonder VE.. It seems to work pretty well by selecting "Philips NTSC_M (MK2)". It still tunes REALLY fast and misses some channels when doing an auto-tune, but not very many. Picture is in color though, so that's a plus!

Also, Stereo seemed to be enabled when I selected "Has TDA 9855 On Board". Haven't tested yet to see if I'm truely getting actual stereo out though.

So, these drivers seem to be working... Any other TV Wonder VE owners using these drivers with any tidbits of useful insight?

Hmm....

I installed WM9 Encoder and DirectX9... Then installed PVS RC1...

It broke my capture... It can't get my tuner/capture driver working, and now ShowShifter doesn't work either...

I used XP to drop back to a previous restore point, prior to installing WM9... ShowShifter works again...

So, I reinstalled WM9 - afterwards SS still worked.. I reinstalled DirectX9... Showshifter still worked... Rebooted, checked again and SS was still working.. Then, finally, I installed PVS.. Same problem - PVS breaks capture on ShowShifter and PVS doesn't work either..

I'm using an ATI TV Wonder VE with the btWinCap drivers..

Any idea what's wrong?
