What does Tivo have that this doesn't

I was thinking of getting a Tivo. It seems to have more features then any software available, IE: season pass, recommends simailar show, etc.... How does this (or beta) compare?

This is potentially cheaper (if you have spare computer parts around) and provides you with a home theater type computer with other modes of functionality (burn your recorded stuff to cd, play mp3s, watch dvds).

If all you're going to do is record tv shows and you have the money to do so, sure, drop the $500 on a tivo with lifetime pass, it's easier to use (*cough* and it even has an on-line guide built in).

Supposedly, 3.0 will make the program more tivo-like with fullscreen ui. I haven't tested it yet so I cannot say it for sure.

The current beta has a local online guide that you can view from the fullscreen UI--working with SnapStream.Net, you'll also be able to intelligently record shows as well. Currently we offer "record all"--i.e. all instances of this show on this channel; and also "record first run"--record all instances of this show on this channel that we know to be the first time it's airing.

Other nice features--the ability to remotely set up a recording. I.e. you're on the road somewhere but have a cellphone that can do simple web pages. Log onto our service, set it up, and your recording info gets picked up by your machine at home (assuming it's on and has net access).

Re: show recommendations, we do not yet offer this nor do we have a timetable just yet.
