Quality

I have an AIW Radeon. Its software records beautiful MP2 files that look as good as TV. My PVS experience in the highest included mode, near-DVD, is NOWHERE near as good. I am using the WFM/directshow settings. Any ideas? Is PVS just not up to high quality recording?

how do you describe the video you are getting when you conduct a recording at near-DVD quality? and how specifically does it compare to the MPEG2 recording from your AIW-Radeon?

I have a similar setup (ATI AIW Pro 128), and the ATI capture is much better, but the file size is about double that of the same show recorded via snapstream. I would consider the near DVD setting on snapstream closer to near VHS in actual quality. I would like to see another option with higher capture settings, or else reclassify the settings you have currently to, at best, near VHS, and add a couple of higher capture options of VHS and near DVD. You would have to expand the showspace setting or you will hit the 2 gig limit with one show.

Magellan has it right. It looks like near VHS. I have played with some other advanced settings in terms of bitrate and framerate but have no guidance. Higher bitrates seem to make for jerky/choppy video. I have a ton of disk space so that is not an issue. Magellan, what AVI settings did you try?

Thanks!
