Post Getting IR Remote Control Software to Work

This probably isn't the most proper place to ask this question but, what are people using for IR remote controls? Currently, I am using the Packard Bell Fast Media receiver and remote but am having trouble getting the thing configured and staying connected. The best/easiest program I've found so far is WIRC (http://zorxx.dohnut.org) but after like 5 minutes of working, the connection is lost and I have to close the app from the taskbar and reopen it to re-establish the connection. I've tried it on both com1 and com2 but no luck. There are no irq conflicts so I don't know what else to try.
Also, I've tried other programs, PC Remote Control, Girder, WinLIRC, uICE but I either couldn't figure them properly before getting a headache OR, they did the same thing as WIRC.
Anyone who can throw me a bone here as to how to correct the connection lose by WIRC or, suggest a program that I haven't tried yet, I would really appreciate it.
I really enjoy using my SnapStream PVS but, I'd love to watch my recorded shows via ZoomPlayer on the couch instead of having to sit in front of the computer and use the keyboard hotkeys.
Thanks,
Jamie

I think your best option is to get another IR Reciever. I use an IRMan myself and have had no problems. http://www.evation.com/irman/

What software w/ IRMan?

I just picked up an IRman and it doesn't seem to work with the Girder 3.6.

What software do you use with IRMan?

I have the Packard Bell remote working with SnapStream and Girder. I must have spent countless hours setting the bugger up but it is worth it in the end, and I got the remote for free so it was doubly-refreshing!

Some tips:

1. Use the Igor SFH56 Plugin. Download the latest Igor SFH56-device plugin. The one included with Girder worked for me for a bit, but then started producing different values every time I pressed a key on the remote. The latest plugin fixed this. You can get it from:

http://www.cesko.host.sk/girderplugin.htm

2. Here are my settings for the Igor plugin. This was the hardest combo to figure out.
Code:
Com port - COM1 (this will change, based on where it is plugged in to your serial port)

Input Signal - DCD

Service - Unchecked

Command order - 1

Enable last bits - 16

Allow Ring0 priority - Unchecked

Priority Level - 7
3. SnapStream GML plugin. Load this up to get the SnapStream commands. After loading it, you have to "teach" the remote to respond to each command. Get it from here:

http://www.girder.nl/exportgr.php

Like I said, it's hard as anything setting it up but it is definately worth it in the end! Also, make sure you have fresh batteries in the remote. If they get weak, then the remote spits out whatever it wants and it really confuses you. Let me know if you need any specific help with anything.
