Regarding data points: I can add that yes, bad tearing in VMC/Netflix/SilverLight. IE8 Is much better.

In Win7/IE8 it looked suprising well when I was streamin Dexter last night.

They are reworking the netflix plugin for Win7 MCE, and it isnt released yet. I am hoping they address this issue when it comes out.
Thanks for the description. I know what you are talking about. The BIG question is why doesn't it happen to me. For "Seeker", that is the same version of Silverlight I am using as well. I've never really researched this or even looked on the web about it, mainly because I've never experienced it. FWIW, this sort of thing actually happens a lot to me in the Beta testing. I usually don't have a lot of the reported issues. Wish I could help more .. but it's not easy when I can't duplicate the problem on my system. It'll be interesting to see how this goes.

Re: Netflix Streaming

From what I've found on AVS and other forums, there doesn't seem to be an identified root cause. There may be more than one cause. For every person that says it works fine with this setup or this viewer application, someone else says it's a problem.

Clearly hardware is a factor for some people and bandwidth may be a factor for others. Since I can get it to work well in one application and not the other, I would guess my issue is the software.

Not really knowing what's under the hood, I would presume that VMC uses the same elements to process and play the stream as IE8, but playback performance is definitely worse in VMC for me.

I too hope it's fixed in 7MC.

Re: Netflix Streaming

I'm running Silverlight 3.0.40723.0 on my XP box and get tearing while watching Netflix streaming.

When it happens it looks like for example the top third of the picture is torn from the rest of the picture and shifted slightly horizontally. It's not like blocking or pixelation. The picture looks as sharp as you'd expect, but a horizontal band of it is out of sync with the rest.

Re: Netflix Streaming

Supposedly the fix for tearing in all video is to use EVR rendering (vs VMR) mode which is only accessible in DX10/Vista and higher. This is why you will never see a full fix in XP. Why VMC exhibits the issue and not IE, I am not sure. I assume it is not setting up or using EVR correctly under VMC.

Re: Netflix Streaming

For what its worth....

I recently reinstalled W7 on BTV machine along with Silver Light 3. I then just went to Netflix and played a movie with no other software.

Bye
