Suggestion

Anyone out there got a suggestion on a good wireless mouse keyboard combo. No one around here carries one and I would prefer to look it over before I buy, but I guess that's not an option. I have seen a few at different places on the internet, but if any of you have direct experience with any please pass along you recommendations or condemnations as the case may be.

I'd recommend a Logitech or Microsoft set.
I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop, which is quite good. No frills, but it does the job well. Good range, nice design, key action, etc.

Well to be more clear I want the mouse and keyboard to be one unit. It would be for my PVS. That way I can sit on the couch and control my system. I don't want a mouse that has to be set on a desktop. Heres an example.

I haven't looked into these much -- but we actually have the same one from your image here at the office. It works well enough to suit our needs.....

Very difficult to clean however when the wheels get dirtied up on the inside.

terminal,

you may want to check out the HTPC forum within the avs forum.

I had seen the airboard (lite-on rf keyboard, do a search on google, etc.) recommended, and I went out and bought one, which I got working with no problem, but I personally wanted a regular keyboard most of the time, and my drivers wouldn't allow me to use both, so I put the airboard away and never actually used it for any period of time. Then I started using my 802.11b pocket pc to wireless control girder with NetRemote, so I never did anything with the keyboard (it's still sitting in the box). My friend who is an HTPC aficionado has one which he uses in conjunction with his pronto, and it seems to work really well for him. The airboard is very inexpensive ($10-20), but it does the job.

I'm using a Webboard (IR9703) right now which works rather well. The only catch is that it's expensive. Very well built however. And as far as I know, I'm the only person using its special multimedia keys in Windows XP (had to make the key mappings myself and now it can work with Microsoft's own Intellitype software or uICE).

Check out some images and more info:

$69 was steep but it was one of the first things I found. I've also read reports on a few other units being pretty flimsy. I suspect that wholesale cost on this keyboard is MUCH lower than the price at PCkeyboards. Oh well, maybe I should tell themk I have the means to make its multimedia keys work under 2K/XP and see how much they think that's worth to them...

Thanks for the info. After looking around and reading the reviews I decided ot get it. I didn't like the other ones I saw because they used a trackball type mouse interface. Everything I have read on those is they don't last very long. I have a pointing device we use at work that is basically a trackball you operate with your thumb. You constantly have to clean it, I think the oil on your thumb makes it usable in a very short amount of time. Anyway I will update how I like it when it comes, should be the end of this week.

Pretty happy with this webboard so far it's small and just what I wanted. Works very well.

Good to hear. Are you running XP or 2K? Interested in software to allow use of the multimedia keys of the keyboard? (plus the unmarked key next to the space)...

I'm working on a program that will allow the use of those keys in XP and 2K. It will make the webboard compatible with the MS Internet Keyboard Pro by default or you can custom-define what the keys should represent instead. The program will work for users of any keyboard and will also allow remapping of any key as well as quick-check options for disabling or changing the function of problem keys like CAPSLOCK and INSERT.

Sorry it's taken so long to answer, but if this software is still available I would like to check it out. Thanks
