Why can't showsqueeze or dvd burner convert mpeg2 HD to mpeg2 VOB?

Neither showsqueeze or the DVD burner software will convert HD directly to a 720x480 mpeg vob dvd compliant file.

Why is this such a difficult task? Who wants to have to convert their video two times just to burn a DVD?

They suggest showsqueezing the MPEG2 HD files to DIVX/WMV and then converting back to MPEG2 DVD files via the dvd burner? This is crazy!

Anyone know if they are working on this or why this would be so difficult of an option to have?

I have asked this a number of times in the forums and there doesn't seem to be an answer. It's pretty annoying to me as well.

Re: Why can't showsqueeze or dvd burner convert mpeg2 HD to mpeg2 VOB?

I think the best explanation I can give for the format question is to think of it as cooking. A live chicken doesn't automatically turn into fried chicken. You have to kill, clean, wash it. Then soak it in buttermilk, dip in flour, and then fry it. Same applies to transcoding video from different formats. Why is it difficult, because of licensing of those formats.
