Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

I jumped from 4.8.1 to 4.9 and then the 2 betas afterwards that were 4.9.1. All the betas ran perfectly. Now that the 4.9.1gm version rolled out some time back, I upgraded right away thinking that everything would go as it has.

My experience has been quite different. The other day I reported that my HD shows would lock the interface and I was forced to end task and reboot. Now I had a channel that was SD, although it's in my guide, Comcast has moved it so it's all snow. When I went to delete that one, same problem.

Last Thursday when The Office and 30 rock recorded, normally back to back 1/2 hour shows, you should get two. I got a 1 hour in the description saying The Office, but the second half was really 30 rock. Then separately I did get a 30 rock recording of the correct size and description-must have recorded on another tuner.

I would assume that when a beta is good and hasn't had any problems it goes GM, but in this case me and it looks like several others have had problems. They apparently made changes after the beta and broke something. I'd like to go back, but I don't think I've got the previous betas. This is not a good position to be in.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

yes i too have had some problems with BTV3Dshell freezing while watching/recording HD. Honestly there are only two things that are keeping me with SS and BTV, first i really dont want to work on a new front end for my media center, and second i think that in 5.0 there will be some REVOLUTIONARY changes! and honestly if there arent i know that i will soon be figuring out another DVR solution....so i am hoping for the best. it just seems like every release fixes problems with the previous but at the same time brings its own.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

I've experienced a lot of the same thing with the 4.9.1 betas - every one seems to have had some quirk that was not real serious (except for the viewscape freezing) but irritating. To be fair though, a couple of weeks ago I came home after being gone for a few days and had some problems (viewscape lock, unresponsive remote in viewscape), so I checked the event viewer and found errors showing bad sectors on my main recording drive. What I thought was odd was that the drive errors only showed up for 1 out of 4 days I was gone and BTV recorded each day on that drive. I corrected the problems on the drive (even reformatted and used 64k clusters this time) and upgraded to the latest RC build and for the last week everything has been running perfectly.

How much was due to the drive (which surprisingly didn't show any problems with the recordings or playback) and how much the specific build I really don't know, but the drive had to have had some effect. In any event the latest RC (6185) now is the most stable for me since the 4.9 betas started.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

Thanks for posting. I was about to install it, as I have never had problems with previous upgrades. Having read your notes, I think I will hold off until I see a response from SS addressing these issues, since 4.9.0 seems stable for now.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

Well I installed the newest release of 4.9.1 from FEB 16th and still had a locking issue.
1. It's happened on more than a few shows, but in the TASK QUEUE in the web admin, one of the shows gets stuck compressing and never stops. CPU usage is high and the rest of the shows wait or utilize just the other cpu to compress so I'm seeing a back log of Showsqueeze jobs.
2. Deleted an SD show today, the VIEWSCAPE then locked up. Strangely enough in task manager of windows it says RUNNING instead of NOT RESPONDING. I had to reboot. This happened to be at the same time as the above problem happened.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

Have these issues been addressed, or confirmed by other users? Is anyone using 4.9.1 smoothly without issues? I am interested in upgrading, but hesitant as my 4.9.0 system is fairly stable.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

I am running 4.9.1 with no issues. I did have an issue where my digital tuner lost all mappings and could not tune, but they may have been related to trying SageTV. Since i remapped all digital channels, I have been on 4.9.1 for a couple weeks with no issues. All works well under XP x64.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

4.9.1 is stable on my system, just moved it over from my beta drive to my production drive. Even installed a new 2250 on it.

I had lockup issues in the past with HD PVR playback, that was fixed when I upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers. I also had issues with guide or directories, mostly related to corrupted files (too many betas). I'm going to wipe my beta drive, and I think I'm happy with my production image. Only complaint is I had jsut gotten my hauppauge remote (installed on my HVR1600) to work perfectly with Eventghost, but now with the 2250 (white box) the IR driver is not recognized (its trying to install on the 2250). Anyone with any ideas let me know, I'll post separately and start pestering Hauppauge.

Best I can tell there are no inherent defects in 4.9.1 relative to 4.9.0, but you should always backup your system before installing.

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

My system is pretty stable, I am having some issues with Showsqueeze, it's random and not on every recording. Not a big deal as it doesn't cause loss of recordings. Also some issues with the HD-PVR, but that is still in beta and is a Hauppauge issue I believe,

Re: Is your 4.9.1GM reliable?

BTVNetworkServices hang after coming out of suspend sometimes.
If you don't watch shows via BTV Link, then you should never see this issue.
I only watch BTV over Link, so I see this problem ALL the time.

My solution was to kill the process after coming out of suspend and BTV watcher will restart it.

Suck, but it is a bandaid...
