Talking Hello all! Newbie here

Hello everyone, forums seem to be my life line on about everything.

I have a question, I just purchased a Hauppauge HVR-950q and installed it. Everything works OK, choppy picture at times, and out of sinc on occassion, but ok. I am using the WINTV that came with my product.

Is Beyond TV a stand alone product that will replace winTV? will I gain better picture quality and stabability? I really don't need to record or anything special, I am just watching tv on a computer in a spare room.

Thanks for any reply to these newbie questions!!!

Beyond TV is a stand-alone product that would typically replace WinTV. The choppy picture is probably due to the lack of computer horsepower and BTV would likely not improve on it. If you don't plan to record TV I think BTV is way more than you need.

Re: Hello all! Newbie here

The WINTV that comes free is crap. I've played around with it before and it just seems like more of an afterthought program to me. Install the trial version of BTV and you'll see what a difference it is - you get 21 days to try it.

You say you don't need to record tv, but if you start, it's how you'll watch tv. Whether I'm home or not, the shows I want to see get recorded and wait till I have time to watch them. I've been using Beyond TV since 2004 and I can't imagine watching tv the "normal" way anymore.

Re: Hello all! Newbie here

Are you using this for cable or for over-the-air digital TV?

If you're using this for cable, I strongly encourage you to return it and get the HVR-1950 instead. The 1950 has on-board MPEG encoding, and it can make a big difference on analog recording.

If you're only recording ATSC or QAM stations, then you may be having peformance problems because of your hardware. Can you tell us about your computer?
