Boxee

Anyone out there actually using Boxee on a television inside their home? Please share your experiences with actual usage in the living room.

(for those who haven't heard of Boxee, they are a media front-end based on XBMC and a lot of people like the fact that they make online services like Hulu and Comedy Central accessible through a full-screen remote controllable user interface... and they've been getting a lot of attention recently. This NYTimes article for example: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/17/te...t/17video.html)

Re: Boxee

The HULU concept is very cool. Not sure why BTV couldn't do that too, or even Netflix.

It also mentioned it could be a extender on their blog, and if this is our solution, I'd be all for it. With a HULU and/or Netflix we might be "one-up" on the competition as an extender.

Re: Boxee

I've noticed a few BTV users in the Boxee Private Forums. One of the beta testers has come up with a way to import BTV shows into Boxee including metadata and commercial skip markers - pretty nifty stuff.

Re: Boxee

Lets hope that Snapstream will find this usefull for their enterprise customers, then maybe we'll get the trickle down effect in a year or so...

Although it's a different product than Boxee, it is exactly what we need, or I want. Internet TV, Movies, and Hulu...and it's here today, not something we're just "thinking" about.
I'm kinda sick about this, Sage already has it? Damn!

Re: Boxee

I was invited to test the alpha version for Windows. I'm going to mess with it this weekend.

Re: Boxee

I'm testing the alpha for Windows and it's very nice so far... A little bit slow (which is to be expected with an alpha), but it seems to be well-designed in a way that makes sense. Please let me know of any questions.

Re: Boxee

oh, so they ARE working on a Windows port! I thought it was pretty much Mac only.

I checked out XBMC last night (Boxee's predecessor). I didn't see what everyone is so excited about.

Re: Boxee

Not Boxee, but I'm using PlayOn to view Netflix and Hulu through a PopcornHour.

I wanted to like XBMC, but just didn't. So far, I like Boxee better, though I haven't played too much with it yet. It runs pretty well on my PVR box (specs in my signature), though the transitions when changing screens are a bit slow. It works out-of-the-box with my Firefly.

Re: Boxee

Using the windows alpha version now. Generally, it's great for internet video, but the balance of the program is pretty much standard xbmc stuff. In other words, all my video files are not organized correctly and thus, are more or less useless inside Boxee. I would love some way to get BTV into boxee.

Re: Boxee

I would love to get something like that but sadly none of the online services work in Canada.

Re: Boxee

I did create a login on Boxee.tv a while back, and am definitely interested in what they are doing. The only Mac in my house is way old to be doing anything with modern video, so I'm waiting for the Windows version.

Cheers,
Bryan

Re: Boxee

i dont know if i can say this but, you can find the windows version of boxee if you look around good enough on the internet. once i had it installed, i just created a sign in and then used the windows version of boxee that i downloaded.

i would love for there to be a way to switch between boxee and BTV or even Beyond media. it is a great program to use to fill the gap that BTV created for internet video. if anyone needs help finding the windows version floating around PM me

and also a little better firefly mini support
