Post irq / memory address needed for ir header

well, i gave them my money. I even got the Actisys ACT-IR200L to control my dish network box. Now, i can't get the dam thing to work. I figure its just irq memory address issue but i can't find any documentation about what the com should be set to. A faq on such thing would be nice, or at least a working search for this form.

Let me know how it should be setup....

system specs:
win2k
bx
500 pIII
128Mb
ati aiw
onbaord creative sound
i miss anything ?

First of all, make sure that the com port you have your Actisys plugged into is active.

You can do this by going to Start->Control Panel->System, clicking on the "Hardware" tab, selecting "Device Manager" and the opening the Ports section. You should see at least one port labelled "Communications Port". If you have a modem, you should have at least two.

The IRSetup program searches Com ports 1 through 4 for the IR Blaster.

If your system is able to find the IR Blaster but doesn't seem to be able to find the dish network remote, it's because the dish network remotes are difficult to detect. Try holding your remote very close to the IR Blaster, but even then, the Dish Network remotes take 3-5 minutes to detect. They do work fine after that though.

If you're still having trouble, please let us know.

both com ports 1 & 2 are enabled in the bios, set to auto. Both apear in device manager. Both are listed as haveing no conflicts and list status as 'working properly'. The ACT-IR200L is securely attached to the first serial connector (i have tryed both).

Despite all this i still can't detect the ACT-IR200L via the IR blaster software.

The error message is as follows.. "Unable to locate and initialize the selected device. Please ensure the device is properly connected to your computer."

What should i try next ?

Have you used your com ports with any other devices previously?

If not...

If your computer is a clone and the serial ports come as a seperate blanking plate insert, it is possible the com port cables are not properly connected to the motherboard. Make sure they are secure and that Pin 1 for each port in connected to Pin 1 on the motherboard for that port. Pin 1 is normally signified by a red color on the cable itself.

MattS: its an atx mobo

PBMax: i tried that older software and it gives me the same error, yet it puts the following text in the log file...

"Address of deviceDLL:a50000
Address of lpfnSetup:a51400
FOUND DEVICE"

All i can think is the the software dosen't like 2k server, despite what the website says about supporting windows 2000.

Anyone else have any ideas ?

Are you on a dialup connection? And if you are what IRQ is your modem on? There may be a conflict with the shared IRQs. If not then nevermind. This is a weird problem. Maybe when Indra releases his new IR code these problems will clear up.

MattS: i don't know if your formilar with the ACT-IR200L, the cable is part of the unit. However, i will atempt to use a second serial device to insure the ports are functional.

I will keep you posted, thanks for any input.

<<update>>

ok, i tried my fastmedia remote ir reciver on the same serial port. worked great. I also tried the ACT-IR200L on my main pc, and it still dosen't work.

I am starting to think my ACT-IR200L is bad.

what you all think ?

Do you know what speed you moved the port settings down to? I think I'm having a similar issue...

are u referring to the 'bits per second' ?

Thanks for any info...

I had to turn off one serial port on my board to get it to work do to IRQ conflicts..... This is one of the reasons I will be moving to the USB version.
