BeyondTV 5.0

BeyondTV 4.9 already includes clear QAM support so I'll be curious when they do release 5.0 maybe in 2009 what new and improved features will it have?

This is more of a wish list.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

Make it work without Micro$oft. Maybe in a flavor of Linux.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

Hey now, no OS flamewars here.

Off the top of my head:
Intergration
Video preview of currently selected recording
PIP
UI that doesn't look fat on 16:9 screens
Channel logos on guide
Colourize guide based on program type
Better commercial detection, maybe a comskip plugin that makes it easy to use that program.
Real-time commercial detection
More/better zoom modes (non-linear, 1.5 aspect ratio, etc)
Burn BD discs
Much more.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

Well here's my first round picks. I'm sure as more people post, I'll agree with some of their ideas as well.
  • Live TV in the corner when you pull up the guide
  • Weather plugin in the main screen
  • Colored guide for show type (user option)
  • User folders for recorded shows. I would like the ability to make a folder like the "Movies" folder to store whatever shows that one person may want and yet no one else wants to see. When recorded shows are viewed by series, that folder will appear as a series but have multiple shows in it.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

The ability to toggle closed captions via options or remote control.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

Closed caption needs to be solved, period. There is nothing more disappointing to me to have all this fancy gear set up, and not be able to use such a simple feature

Sure, there are hacks, but it needs to just be solved, period, and the closed caption on my TV should work. I'm willing to buy a new version just to get this.

Amen to that. I've tried to ignore the fact that such a basic capability has taken the backseat to iPod integration and other snifty features, but in my two years as a BTV customer, I'm getting a little frustrated with this omission.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

DVB, DVB, DVB

Darkk did say wish list.

I'm sick of waiting for a decent DVB supporting PVR application to come out. Pretty much what others want as well.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

DVD Library integration to BTV (which would include playback of DVD's and a centralized database for the library that the link clients would not need updating individually)

Ability to implement BM plugins.

Re: BeyondTV 5.0

Delete any recordings with nothing to record in over 90 days. Every so often I've seen recordings with nothing in the upcoming recording for weeks so I delete it. Be nice it does it's own housekeeping.

Hmm, lets see, the TV season ends in May and usually starts 3-4 months later, so you'd have to redo all your recording jobs each new TV season... I must be missing something...

Some shows may get canceled for whatever reason. For example Smash Lab (yes I know some you guys hate it so don't go there) I don't see any re-runs or any new shows for awhile now so thinking they may have dropped it. Cities of the Underworld is also another example. Rather than mark my calendar to delete it in 3 or 4 months from now let it do it's own deletion or expiration based on this scenario. Of course the user should have the ability to specify how many days or months for it to expire.

Probably easier way to describe it is if the recording doesn't have any activity in 90-120 days it should be removed. One time I had almost over 100 recordings and it was a mess trying to go through them all to see if there is anything going on.
