3.0 release

I might be looking at something extremely obvious here, but doesn't SnapStream just give an efficient UI to the free Windows Media Encoder? My guess it that SnapStream 3.0 is waiting for the final release of WME 9, which is at Release Candidate 1 right now.

Yes, but try setting recording timers for the WME over the internet, changing the channel at the appropriate time, and streaming on demand. I guess you are right to some extent, but the extra features are what they charge for.

That's going to be *very* CPU intensive, and only people with 2GHz+ Intel processors will be able to take advantage of it.

I'm running Windows Media Encoder 9 - RC1 right now on a dual celeron board(550mhz each). It isn't even using 60% of the CPUs. Functiaonlly, it looks identical to WME7.

Either way, the point was that Snapstream 3.0's release will most likely coincide with the final release of Windows Media Encoder 9, because SnapStream IS WME with a better UI and hooks for changing the channel on your TV tuner.

There are - how can I put this? - other issues that should be addressed before release, that are not encoder-related.

Is it? And there was me thinking that it would be changing to MPEG for the next beta to facilitate trick play.
