Fujitsu's H.264 chip encodes/decodes in Full HD

http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/21/f...-a-worlds-fir/

Title says it all, those with knowledge, does this help us with a component capture card (from say a satellite stb)? I figure dvi/hdmi is out of the question since they will restrict output, but we should still see full HD through component for a few years more.

I'm not an expert in this field, but I do have some thoughts about this new chip.

If TiVo decides to abandon CableCard and go the Component Input for HD route, I'm sure they'll not hesisitate to call on their team of lawyers to pressure the FCC and/or CATV and SAT providers to unlock their Set Top Boxes.

If that happens, the likelyhood of a PCI Card or PCI Express Card or USB device that we can use in BTV to capture HD via Component from a Cable or Sat box would be very good.

However, if that comes to pass, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray makers would most likely quickly lock down the Component Output of their new releases to 480p, if they haven't done so allready.

This is definitely a good thing, assuming someone does something with it. I can't see it any time in the near future.
