"Searcy by title" not finding programs.

I've been using Beyond TV for several months with relatively few problems. However, recently the 'Search by title' feature is not working properly. I type in "daily" and The Daily Show doesn't come up (although it is shown in the SnapStream Guide, and the guide is up to date). I type in "Digging" and Digging for the Truth doesn't come up, etc.

I thought it might have something to do with the guide.. but it downloaded another update yesterday and still no dice.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Welcome to the club. It's like this for many of us, yet Snapstream seems to ignore the problem. They say it's a bug, but to me it's a showstopper and a patch should have been out long ago.

Good luck!

Good luck!

Until a fix comes out, you should be able to search/schedule recordings using snapstream.net

Just to confirm that the SearchByTitle in the API is busted too...

OTOH, you can use the GetEpisodeByFilters, using the title filter and it works fine (i.e. it found Daily show and more), like the Advanced 2 sub-tab (search tab) in BTV-Negociator (link in my signature)...

Seriously? How can SnapStream not address this? Searching through the SnapStream.net guide is like asking someone to find a web site not by searching through Google, but by finding it on a page listing all internet sites manually. That's ridiculous.

As much as I paid for this piece of software, it's pretty unbelievable I can't search for programs by title.. um.. developers.. fix please?

Have you used the search function on snapstream.net ?
Is there something that it doesn't do for you ?

For example, your search by daily brings back a list of shows with daily in the title. The three red buttons represent record this episode, record all episodes, or record new episodes. Not sure what your statement of finding a web site by searching through google represents - snapstream.net comes with the product and gives you the ability to set up recordings from anywhere in the world.

Re: "Searcy by title" not finding programs.

Just remember, when searching and scheduling a recording via SS.net, it will _not_ prompt you and tell you there is a conflict (or possible conflicts).

A work around yes, but it causes quite some extra work.

Correct - it does not show conflicts, but if you also have web admin available, you can see it/fix it in a flash. I probably set up 70-80% of my recordings on ss.net and then use web admin to resolve conflicts.

And I want to be clear that I am not minimalizing the fact that this is a bug that should be fixed (and will be according to ss tech support once they have a new beta). There are just other ways to skin this before that happens.

Re: "Searcy by title" not finding programs.

Thanks for the reponse everyone, much appreciated. I was aware of the SS.net solution, but it doesn't have the conflict resolution and seems to be kind of flaky.. but I guess that'll work for some people.

So I decided to uninstall/reinstall. That worked. Search within BTV is now working, although I guess it's just a matter of time until it breaks again.

By the response to this thread (and numerous others), it's pretty clear this is /not/ an isolated problem. I hope the developers are able to address it soon.. it's a pretty serious flaw.

Agreed. I've been taking the time to explore other software to keep me busy. I hope they fix this (and other problems) because there's nothing like BTV.

I am sorry, but in order to use this feature, you would have to use the keyboard, which kind of defeats the purpose of using a 10' interface. Although some may argue that you can put a wireless keyboard and mouse to your mediaPC, but that defeats the purpose of using this solution as a MediaPC appliance.

I can schedule it on a separate PC via snapstream.net, but most of the time, when I am using another PC, I would generally like to use BTV Link, which is also affected by this bug.

I think this is a major usability issue and should be addressed and patched w/ a minor patch instead of a next minor revision update.

Re: "Searcy by title" not finding programs.

I just recently noticed that this issue had occured on my machine -- and during the process while I had BTV off -- I was able to resolve it.

see if it helps anyone:

browse to:

\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond TV\lucene

go into each of the two folders and delete the contents.

Restart BTV.

Update the Guide for good measure -- give it a bit to index..

See how it acts.

That was suggested to me before, and unfortunatly didn't fix it.
