Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
Actually none of the 'Choices' fits where I think I will be OS wise in two years. (It will be a combination of XP and Linux)
XP is the end of the road for me regarding Microsoft. I will take XP for as long as I can or until I get more comfortable with Linux. I recently built a server from an old 2GHz Dell using Linspire/Freespire and this is giving me the opportunity to learn Linux. I will no longer purchase new computers unless I can order it with XP Pro or with a Linux OS.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
Ok, the choices are based on future direction, and 2 years is merely hypothetical. If you plan on sticking with xp until you get comfortable with linux, then linux "eventually" would be your answer (not nexessarily 2 years from now) but the point is you are moving in that direction.
And using Windows when you absolutely have to and Mac everything else, I should clarify that in the theoretical 2 year future (or 4 year or whatever) Mac or Linux will have missing applications that are only available in windows now, that includes games, drivers, etc. Might be a leap of faith but if you truly don't believe they will be available then one of m$ choices would be for you, otherwise your choice I would say is Mac.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
Ok, then xp would be any pre-vista m$ OS (2000, server 2003, etc) Is there any way to edit the poll or should I start over?

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
I have one linux machine for fun and I am fairly comfortable with it, however I doubt I will ever convert all my machines over to linux as there will never be enough support or applications for all my needs. Unfortunately I guess my answer will be vista by then.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
i chose stick with xp but really it depends on the landscape in two years. if most games require vista i will have at least one machine with vista. if ss makes a linux btv i am chucking xp asap(except for gaming). if neither of these things happen it is xp all the way from now on until something else comes along that i am willing to change to.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
I think I'll be vista by then, even though the computer I built 2 months ago (after Vista was out) I slapped XP on. I just have a feeling that something I really want is going to require Vista and I won't be able to resist.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
I use linux for almost everything now. I will probably get a mac for my next home system though. All the best of unix with all the best of mac as well. All the video apps for mac are great too.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
I am mostly linux now. I want to get away from the M$ stuff as it gives me more pains when things go bad with the OS. I do have some XP (BTV, quicken) but most everything else has an equivalent on my desktop linux machine. All my servers have always been linux for internet sharing, file server, e-mail as this is it's forte. So, hopefully, in 2 years I will be all linux.

Re: Where do you see your OS in 2 years?
combination of XP and linux. I do want to upgrade my computer at some point - but I am going to go kicking and screaming into Vista...but who knows, maybe in 2 years i will have vista. If Snapstream released a BTV Linux edition, I would switch my server to Linux.

As I said in an earlier post in this thread; XP is the last Microsoft OS for me. Fortunately I am old and I do not play games or do much video conversion so I think Linux or what ever will do..
