Media player

I am still working on a way to get Hd tp files from bytv4 to my kitchen tv with out another computer and a link program. I ran accross this media player from netgear. Is anyone out there using this netgear eva 8000 ( http://www.netgear.com/Products/Ente...s/EVA8000.aspx
and if so will it play bytv4 transport files? I am not sure what a tp file is. Is it proprietary to snap stream or is it like a mpeg4 file?
Thanks for any info
Wayne

No personal experience with it but you may take a look here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=782700

No, tp is not proprietary to BTV. HD is usually captured as a tp or ts file, which is mpeg2 but allows for the HD specifications.

A few other Network Media Players (NMP) you may consider are:
Ziova CS510, 505
DVICO TVIX 4100SH

IMO the most promising in the group is the TVIX 4100SH but it is only now becoming available over at Digital Connection.

The AVS forum is a good place to hang out if you are looking to learn about NMPs.

Good luck!

FWIW I have been using NMPs for two years and it has really worked out well.

Which ones?

Edit: Nevermind. I think they are in your signature.

A few comments about the NMPs I have been using:

Hauppauge Media MVP-Inexpensive, easy to set up, primarily good for mpeg2 with mp2 or 3 audio, good choice for SD TV. GB-PVR has a nice plug-in for it.

I-O Data Linkplayer-Moderately priced, easy to setup, plays mpeg2, HD ts, HD Divx, HD WMV, mp4, ISO (need third party server software from WIZD (freeware), reliable, remote has limited range, poor tech support, DVD player is weak. For viewing a wide variety of video formats over a wired network this player does it solidly.

I recently replaced my upstairs SD TV with a 37" HD, so I want to replace the MVP. As I said above IMO the TVIX 4100SH is at the top of my list. It is because support seems fair and active, it is a newer Sigma Design chip and plays h.264 and it has the capability to work without server software and will work with NFS (smooth play back of high bitrate HD ts files).
