winword.exe

Hello All,

I keep having winword.exe taking 50% of my cpu. I can't find it in the MSconfig startups. BTV doesn't need this (does it?)?

Maybe there is a service that is starting. What uses this?

I never enable microsoft office (nor I use it) but I think it may still be starting up and causing this.

Re: winword.exe

that's microsoft word. You must have it installed and in use somehow. Do you use Outlook? It could be the default editor for emails and that's how it is being used.

Re: winword.exe

If you don't use office uninstall it, it's a separate package.

Is it the default app for xml files or something? Check file associations (uninstall should sort this out) I never install office on my htpc (openoffice is plenty)

Here's something that popped up on a search (it intrigued me) http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_933745.aspx Other statements were check wherefile location is, could be adware, or it could have a worm or virus in a macro. Either way, I say disappear it.

Re: winword.exe

If winword.exe is actually running and taking 50% ... do check for a normal.dot template containing virus as a script.
