Has anyone tried the Videum II or 1000 with SS?

I don't use the tuner feature on my AIW card - and since it's an ATI, there are plenty of driver problems.

I'm willing to buy a new composite in card - but it has to be good.

30fps @ 640x480 - or even 720x576@25fps
wdm drivers

also, snapstream specific:

- must allow the system to go into and come out of standyby properly

- must still record scheduled programs if and/or when the system returns to the welcome screen.

I'll only get answers to the above two from someone with first hand experience. I've looked into most cards and had to pass on many - but I can't seem to get the answers I need on the Videum cards from Winnov.

Anyone have one?

I am currently using an Osprey 210, SB Live Platinum and a Direct TV S-Video input.
Having spent way too much time in the effort I am convinced that 640x480 needs some more than what is currently out there.
With my current setup (800mhz P3, UDMA/100 7200rpm and the above specs) the best I have seen is about a 45% frame drop and bad interlacing problems.
At work I have tried a Dual 1GHZ P3 15K SCSI and DV500 Pro, P4 1.8GHZ with UDMA/100 also with a DV500 Pro. Nothing even came close.
Honestly I am happy with 320x240 but 640x480 does look great.
Post any progress you make.

Thanks!

Thanks for your input.

Even though the Osprey has a great reputation, I decided to stay away from because of the (old) Brooktree chipset and only VFW drivers !!! (can you believe it!)

ATI cards with the Rage Theatre Chipset should be better - but have heaps of driver issues (even with their OWN apps).

Don't know whether the Videum uses VFW or WDM drivers - it's a very expensive card.

Srigby,

You mentione VFW like it is bad word.
Are there better options?

Obviously I have two 210s and I am not ready to upgrade.

When I go under the setup options I swore it had WDM. I will have to check.

Good luck!

Well, I could be wrong - but in my books, it's bad (or at least out-dated).

Since DirectX is running the multimedia show on PC's these days, you need to be using WDM drivers to integrate with it.

BTW, I found at that the Videum II only supports VFW drivers as well - but apparently WDM drivers are "coming soon".
