Missing Remote article - Streaming media content

"You'll notice a major player (besides Microsoft) missing in the game: Snapstream and their BeyondTV. I'm not sure why, but I'd imagine they are working on a solution in due time."

For some reason, they discuss Sage, Webguide4, and Orb, totally ignore Media Portal and claim Beyondtv cannot stream over internet (which of course it only does for software encoders.)

Not sure about the source, but again, an area SS should get back to focusing on. We really need a way to get orb like functionality over the internet with hardware encoders. Even though Orb is free, I'd rather only have one pvr running on my system.

It would be nice to have a orb-like ability built-in to BeyondTV. I use orb some, but have issues with it at times. Still, it's the best solution for the BTV user unless you have a software encoding card.

Re: Missing Remote article - Streaming media content

I use Orb too on occasion. Unfortunately it's pretty cpu intensive so I'm in the process of removing it from my Link box and putting it on my main system that I'm not using if I'm not at home. Running it on the Link box or BTV server could impact the rest of the family if they are home and I'm not.

I like the fact that Orb can re-encode on the fly and automatically adjust the stream speed. I'm not sure if it would be fair to expect those features in BTV, but some sort of streaming with adjustable data rate that doesn't impact recordings is a must IMO.
