1394 capture

So here's my setup:

o Dish Network DishPlayer receiver
o Sony TRV-510 camcorder
o ADS Pyro 1394 card

The analog output of the Dishplayer goes into the camcorder, which digitizes it and sends it out the 1394 port to the computer. I've been using this to capture all my favorite programs, after which I encode them to MPEG-1, edit and remove commercials, and store on Video CD.

For awhile, I've been toying with the idea of whipping up an app that could automate this process somewhat, using my IrDA port to tune the satellite receiver on a schedule and automatically starting a capture. SnapStream might be able to help me, but can it capture 1394 DV?

I also have a Sony TRV510 and a Sony PCG-XG19 Laptop and hve not been able to connect the 510 to the DSS and record directly to the laptop Hard drive, is this what you are doing? If you are please let me know what setting and software are you using.

Thanks

Well it's been a year, guys. Any luck on this issue? Also, has anyone been successful in using a FireWire equipped camcorder as a webcam? If so, how do you prevent it from shutting off automatically?

Aside from the fact that ssw.exe keeps crashing on me with an access violation (see ATI DV Wonder thread in Support), here's how to keep your DVCam from turning off.

I have the Sony PC-110, and I have enabled "AV->DV Out" option on the camera.

1. Plug the DVCam into external power.
2. Turn the camera to VCR.
3. Eject and remove, or push STOP to disengage the cassette heads and auto shutoff.
4. Leave DVCam on, and all your AV on the SVideo or Composite input will transcode to the DV cable. The DVCam should remain on.

This works for me on the PC-110. The PC-100 did not have the AV to DV Transcode feature.
