Re: CableCard is here...

I am ditching all me tuners and going to CableCARD as soon as it is supported. I can't stand my HDHomeRun.

Really? Man, my experience is so much different. My HDHR is THE only thing that I can say has had close to zero problems for me, from a tuner perspective. I've had trouble with my HDPVR and PVR-150/500s.

Actually there is now a way to get CableCard into 3rd Party (non-Microsoft). Via an add-on CableCard tuning can being done in a very experimental way with SageTV so it might be possible with others.

Re: CableCard is here...

I read that, unfortunately it still uses WMC to record and just takes over command of WMC, then converts the files for Sage. I assume a similar addin can be made for BTV if someone were interested. Of course you have the same limitations, subject to the broadcast flag, required to use WMC (W7 I believe), and the biggest negative of all, onlyworks on cable (no satellite).

I agree although it would be more difficult in BeyondTV since there is no "network encoder" functionality for BTV as there is in SageTV. If anyone could do it Fonceur would be the one.

Actually it should work with VMC or W7MC - most who install W7 will have it already on the PC.

Always nice to have options though Zeta

Re: CableCard is here...

I don't think it will work with XP MC, only vista and W7, a big negative for those of us still xp fans.

corrected "It will only work with W7 - not XP"

Again, it's not the holy grail here, but nice to have options. I'm personally extremely happy with my HD-PVR - it has been rock solid for most of this year. But I like to have ways to use other tuners out there and the Ceton is one I"m intrigued by.

I hate the setup and from time to time Comcast moves channels around. Setup time to map all 100+ channels that my HDPVR now sees takes almost 6 hours to map the show displayed to the channel through the new setup wizard. Unless setup gets as easy as picking a lineup like it is with the other tuners, you will find mine on ebay next year.

Re: CableCard is here...

I agree, the set up on mapping channels is a pain especially with comcast cuz if the signal is week on the coax, which already loses signal when u use the splitter to go into both dual channels, it doesnt see all the channels.

Does anyone know if choosing different recording qualities is now gone with the new BTV. I had an upcoming recording and wanted to reduce the quality to save harddrive space and I couldnt. I could only control quality for all recordings going forward.

Re: CableCard is here...

I just bought the Hauppauge 2250 MC-kit Dual Tuner and using it on Window 7 Home Premium 64-bit in Windows Media Center and I can tune in all the unencrypted Comcast HD channels. It also records them.
I have done nothing nor installed any other program, this is "out-of-the-box".
Also, my nVidia Control Panel shows that my PC is HDCP capable. I have an older ASUS MB, A8N-SLI Deluxe, with two nVidia based PNY 9500 GT cards.

Setting up the HD channels was easy enough. All I had to do for some of them was change the channel number to align with the SD channel and change some of the channels guide settings so the showed the correct guide information.

The only reason I'd like a cable card is so that I can watch and record encrypted channels. We have digital set-top boxes and pay for the channels I want to watch, so not looking to get something for nothing, just to be able to watch on my PC without being required to set up IR Blaster for yet another box.

Re: CableCard is here...

Wow, I am aghast at how much effort you have put into bashing BTV and spamming WMC. Why are you even on these boards? Can't you find some boards to discuss WMC? The Green Button ? Seriously, why are you here?
