Is there anybody out there from the UK?

Not that I have anything against the/you Americans, it's just that a lot of what gets discussed here is not relevant to us on the other side of the pond.
I have just downloaded and installed SS light onto WinXP without much problem, which make me a bit lucky I guess.
Has anybody got any comments, suggestions re TV Capture Cards (I currently has a basic Hauppauge PCI card) and need some advice on a possible upgrade. Also I am looking for a TV out card so I can distribute my recorded TV programmes through the house to TV's as well as PC's, any suggestions?
My biggest question however is, is there a UK TV listing service that integrates with SS with UK TV and Cable listings.
Seeing as I mentioned Cable, I have an NTL set-top box, will the IR Controllers mentioned else where on this site, i.e. ActiSys IR-200L, RedRat work with my box?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I can answer the TV guide bit
www.digiguide.com - only £4.99 per year subscription.

While you are there grab the SS addon:- http://www.digiguide.com/ratings/default.asp?th=addins

With this you just right click on the show and it will add it to SS schedule

I'm in the UK.
(Another victim of NTL).

I downloaded the digiguide trial and it looks very good and useful on first inspection.

I am developing my home network and have similar interests in being able to record digitally and playback over a home network. I have looked at the TIVO system but am holding off while I see what other options are out there.

Hi

Me too.

You may like to try www.showshifter.com - very good for viewing via TV out - flexible in terms of codecs and pretty stable. Integrates with DigiGuide pretty well.

Does not support network streaming but then again nor does snapstream (at the moment) if you have an ATI card.

Showshifter is my preferred choice for recording, DVD playing, audio etc.

I'm in the UK, I'm using SSW along with Digiguide and an addin I wrote which can be found at http://www.navigator.co.uk/digi_ssw/
This gives as near to Tivo as you can get (infact in my opinion it's better than Tivo as the digiguide listings are much more acurate). My addin also creates a custom listing channel, so your SSW recordings are listed in digiguide.

I have a matrox double head graphics card, which is great. It allows one output to be set to the computer monitor and the other output to be set to output digital video to composite or s-video. This means that when I play back a recording, it can be postage stamp size on my monitor, but plays back as full screen on the TV.

Im interested in sending video recorded with Snapstream around the house. I've recently bought a wirless 802.11b access point and too cards. I also have an old PII 350. If i got a Capture card would that be up to encoding the video. If not would me 1ghz Laptop be up to it. Im probably gonna go for a USB Model any comments. How would you go about splitting a PCs video round a house?

Thanks

Its no problem to control a Sky digibox with a RedRat IR Controller, no idea about the Actisys one.

Thanks for that I might give that a try some time, anyone know if you can use the rs232 connector on the back of the digibox, like you can with some of the US boxes, most of the newsgroups seem to say that it has been disabled by Sky. I guess i should just give it a try, a Null modem cable is just a tiny bit cheaper than the redrat:-)
