HELP - Play flash video on a BM plugin?

Ok. I'm throwing this out to the masses to see if any of you smart developer types have any ideas how best to write in the ability to view flash video content on a Beyond Media Plugin? This has become an issue for the webvideos plugin , youtube plugin and a few other applications.

If you have any ideas or are able to help, please let me/us know.

Thanks!

Brent

Re: HELP - Play flash video on a BM plugin?

Thanks for bringing this up Brent. I'll be more specific on what my issue is with webvideos. I can get access to the .flv files but the only known way to play them is to have a swf that can play them in a pseudo-streaming fassion. I have not been able to find one that can play version 8 flv files successfully. Or if there is another solution to "stream" these flv files I'd love to hear it.

Re: HELP - Play flash video on a BM plugin?

I think Beyond Media uses the standard "DirectShow" way of playing media since it uses Windows Media Player. So, theoretically if you have the correct filters installed you can play it. I know in TVedia I could play Google videos, etc. once I installed ffdshow and set it to decode flash video (FLV).

OK. I managed to play an flv stream through Windows Media Player by installing the K-lite standard codec pack. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1094057842/4 I'm going to see if this will help the plugin. If it does, there is going to be an added requirement to get web videos working which is to get codecs loaded for flv files.

That would be great news for your webvideos plugin.

An alternative way to set up your PC to play flash videos that reside on your pc:

First step :
Download and install ffdshow
Then :
  1. Download the packed binary file (build by “Celtic Druid”)
  2. Extract the filter file (flvsplitter.ax) from the archive
  3. Copy the file to your “windows/system32″ directory
  4. From the Start menu choose “Run” and enter: regsvr32 flvsplitter.ax
If you intend to uninstall the filter at any time run regsvr32 -u flvsplitter.ax and remove the file.

Yep. Basically I installed ffdshow and flvsplitter using the link I showed - its a combo pack. Anyway, I have a couple bugs to iron out but a new version of Web Videos should be out this week with my greatest addition yet. Or at least it was for me. Hint: I have young kids and I don't have cable.

This will be awesome. I think it will help ig time since everyone is going towards flash video to protect their videos from being leeched. Way to stay a step ahead of them
