The week(s) I'm having
Ok, only purpose of this thread is for me to rant about all the crap that's been thrown at me. The fact that a majority of it impacts my BTV build means I am going to rant here. I've been sadled with three trips in two weeks, giving me a day or so at home to pick up the pieces in between. In fact I have a brand spanking new htpc I'm dying to switch to that I can't since I won't be there to babysit it, which doesn't seem to make a difference. Yo usee, I was afraid something would break down and I'd lose recordings at the critical "Start of the new season" time.
But here's what happens. Last week, while traveling, my bios battery (similar battery in similar mobo died a couple weeks back, picked up two but like an idiot didn't feal like swapping the second, my htpc out) so on Tuesday date went haywire, no recordings through Friday. Saw some of the shows on my travels, lost Earl, Office, Eureka, and a bunch of Scrubs, Daily SHow and Colbert. Hey, Eureka replayed this week, most others will rerun soon.
THis week, Chicago gets the snot kicked out of it (specifically here in the southern suburbs) with microbursts, basically the heavens open up and god shits hail and wind on you. I am without power from Monday until about an hour ago. Fortunately I got home in time to catch Lost at my parent's, Nip Tuck repeats Friday, missed that repeat and the new Eureka, bunch o other stuff. At least I still get the new BS episodes tomorrow (assuming no more power outs)
And here's the real kicker, heading out tomorrow afternoon for my last trip, but becuase of a multitude of bad luck, I have guide data through sat noon, and my internet (cable) is out. THe rocket scientists at Comcast can't even tell me if there is an estimated repair time.
So, I have mirrored my build on the only computer with a modem (my laptop) and am now in the midst of trying to download a guide update on 50kbps so I can transfer the files to my htpc. I am assuming this will work, but have never tried it before.
Now, probably the only thing other than sympathy I'm looking for here is, is there a way (or a plugin) where one could download guide updates to any computer using snapstream.net login, whre you don't need a btv installation yada yada yada? This would let me get the files at work or wherever I have a working internet connection, then paste the files to my application data snapstream directory. Such a thing would really make my week right now.
Wish me luck on the weekend...
