Exclamation Forum Search Question

This is more related to the forum functionality itself. Sometimes, I find that the search function here, isn't either always accurate, or just acts very weird....someone please verify if the following is just me, or if it is actually a quirk:

For example, I wanted to find the tool 'PostHaste'; I searched for it and it came up with a few threads talking about people wanting to hide windows, I found a link to PostHaste within the thread

How to hide the Comskip window when running

the actual link to PostHaste is:

[addon] PostHaste

Why didn't this come up in my search results...I also found that the 'Search this Forum' tool to basically not work at all for me...for example, if I go into BT Addons, and click the Search This Forum (next to forum tools) and search for MediaMVP, I get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." This just seems like very odd behavior. If anyone has an explanation, i would love to hear it. It happens to me at home and at work. Thanks!

Re : Forum Search Question

Well, if you use the search function <evil grin>, it has been pointed out before... It looks like some of the forums are not actually scanned by the "search all forums" and other strange things like that.

Re: Forum Search Question

It seems like all of the SnapStream Developer Network forums are being ignored

Re: Forum Search Question

Kind of a shame really; there are a lot great plugins that are out there that fix a lot of common problems and can be difficult to turn up. I found stray references to PostHaste for example, and finally found an actual link to it in a post. Seems the developers would get a little more face time if their plugins showed up in a search on "Hide Window"....just my 2 cents

Re: Forum Search Question

Search was turned off on the snapstream developer network forums and I've turned it on now so NEW posts should get indexed and added to the default search. But we have to reindex all of the existing posts to fix this problem. I'm going to ask our admin to take care of this tomorrow so it should get done in relatively short order. Thanks for making me aware of this problem.

Re: Forum Search Question

On some car forums I use, that use this same interface, I had a similar problem. It seems like your issue is solved, but feel like sharing mine.

I *KNEW* the thread I was looking for had the word bowflex in it, but when I searched for bowflex, it wasn't listed, although it did find several other threads with that word in the title and text. I finally found the thread another way, and determined that the search must be case sensitive, since in the thread the person had capitilized it as Bowflex.

Re: Forum Search Question

This might have ocurred to you already, but I get much more relevant data by selecting search returns as posts rather than threads (in the advanced search).

Re: Forum Search Question

AdmA, the search problem you brought up should be fixed now. Thanks again for bringing this up.

Bilar Crais, good idea, I like how avsforum does this where they have both a link to the thread and a link to the matching post. If anyone knows off-hand how to implement something like this in vbulletin, let me know. Meanwhile, I'm going to assign it to our admin to try and figure out.
