Re: Vote Now! Top Feature Request!

While I agree that QAM and Beyond Media/Beyond TV UI integration are the top, most-wanted of the feature list, I must laugh at the numbers under QAM on this poll. Those silly jesters really went overboard with faking this poll...

Re: Vote Now! Top Feature Request!

Great product, Im saying this in advance so nobody thinks I'm being harsh.

To be honest instead of concentrating on just one feature to work on next, I would hope the snapstream dev team would be working on multiple improvements to their software. I am sure this is the case; I would be shocked if not.

Anyway, here are a few things that are very common sense and just occurred to me from using BTV over the last month or so... A couple I mentioned before, the rest I have not mentioned yet...

If some of these features already exist, please excuse, and let me know!

In no particular order:
1. Ability to integrate with the desktop and just "become" the windows wallpaper. TV would be in the background as my wallpaper so if I open windows, they just appear above it.

2. Partial (adjustable) transparency when operating in non-fullscreen windowed mode.

3. Frame skip while in "Pause" mode!! How could this be missed.. is it just me!?!?

4. Slow/Fast motion! Again not sure how this got missed. Slow motion is awesome for those hilarious stunts and explosions! And... fast motion, preferably with audio if speeds are <= 2x -- great for just skimming thru a show like a news broadcast, etc. PowerDVD does this but it lacks other playback features I like in BTV.

5. In the guide, highlight the Time heading at the top of the guide whenever I have something already set to record in that time slot. Save us the time of scrolling thru our list just to find out we already set a recording at the bottom of our list in that time slot. (GBPVR does this and its great)

6. The "Setup Recordings" button currently opens up a menu where we can view airings by category, title, etc. I recommend adding an alternate "By Time" style where I can simply see everything coming on today in a list going straight down. This would be a little easier than having to jump around the standard guide in 2 directions. Get me? Just a bulk dump of everything on today (or a given day) and all I do is scroll down + click what I want.

Ah well.. hopefully someone is listening... Cheers!

What makes you think that? The interest in cablecard and QAM seems pretty high in the people that I've talked to offline. I'd imagine it's even more so among those that are really into PVR's. Most people get lousy HD OTA reception for one reason or another.

Let's face it, you really have to want digital cable to pay $800 for a Tivo just so you'll have a privilege of a monthly fee for the rest of your life...

These are the only reason I keep the ATI AIW in my office PC. I love the adjustable transparency of the ATI software. That's about the only thing I love about it.

One feature I would like to see at some point is the ability to switch between letterbox and auto video modes with one button or have it automatically switch to 16x9 mode whenever you view an HD feed. This never bothered me until I bought a wide screen TV.

Re: Vote Now! Top Feature Request!

I am a .NET software developer and I am somewhat motivated to start writing plugins for a PVR solution.

I am a big fan and BTV and so far, I like it the most of all the offerings out there to date.

The following are my justifications for voting for the BM/BTV integration feature.

I currently use Beyond TV, and Beyond Media. I really only use Beyond Media to play DVD's however. I find the rest of the functionality in terms of music and video file mangement to be a bit clunky and outdated.

Anyway, back to the point. There are 2 reasons I have been hesitant to write plugins to improve my situation.

1) I bought the software (BM), and it seems that there have been 0 improvements to it from Snapstream since then (2005?), so I guess I have a kind of bad attitude about it.

2) Presumably, Snapstream will integrate BM/BTV together, which would potentially (hopefully) change the API that is exposed for writing plugins to work with the new combined offering.

I have several ideas for plugins that I would definitely be willing to help with should this integration occur, therefore making BTV extensible by the community.

1) Torrent plugin where users could "subscribe" to torrents via rss and have them magically appear in their video collection.

2) Enhancements to the already sweet DVD plugin for BM

3) Home video library where users could add lots of metadata, markers and chapters to their digital recordings. Maybe use nice meta tags like "Birthday" or "Vacation" to make the videos searchable by tag, year, people in the video. Possibly even have the capture of the video occur through the BTV/BM product.

4) Google video integration

Finally, it would be neat if Snapstream created some kind of licensing structure that allows 3rd parties or individual developers to sell plugins. In my opinion, this would foster more plugin development. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about open source, and people who develop for the betterment of mankind. But I really believe if developers could charge just $5 for their plugins they would spend a lot more of their precious time working on them.

...Just a few ideas.

P.S. hdhomerun native integration with BTV would be sweet!

Re: Vote Now! Top Feature Request!

OpenQAM support will must likely not be full swing in tell later this year if not the last 6/7mos of next year there are min Manufacturers working on that planned for future standerd, After all FTC mandate that analog tv station must be turn off in Feb, 2009.
So they going need Unencrypted Signal know OpenQAM for basic TV channel which usely only your local area tv station + community access + tv guide and weather and in some cases a few expanded basic channel after all as more and more people are switching to Digital TV Tuner.
I'm guesting in Jan 2009 we may see very low cost converter box for thoses that still have standerd Analog TV set or Digital TV with non digital tuner.

Some body forgot Channel Logo

Re: Vote Now! Top Feature Request!

As I mentioned in a thread last year ( The Tivo Guide is the ONLY thing I Miss in BTV ), the thing that keeps me pining for TiVo is the incredible guide. That is my #1. And it's what keeps my wife from really getting into the BTV groove.

My #2 would be dual tuner cache that allows me to switch between two channels with one button push. (This is also something I miss from TiVo).

My #3 would be the ability to sort folders alphabetically or by recording time with the push of a button.

Re: Vote Now! Top Feature Request!

PIP seems glaringly missing, but I really dont know if I would even use it that much. I dont watch live tv at all.

The one that is really missing is cablecard support, but I don't think that is even an option right now.

Making a keyword based channel would be my vote.
