Post Any developers out there?

Hey folks,

I am looking for several active plugin developers, a webpage developer, a network guru, and a graphic artist. I am tossing around a big open-source idea, one that would require a small army of developers to accomplish.

Please reply here, or PM me, if your interested. I will not be releasing details privately or publically just yet... as I am waiting on a reply from SnapStream.

Assuming that doesn't work out... I'll definitely be proceeding with this plugin, and this time its gonna be big.

Good times,
-Brett

You're such a tease.....

Wish I could help out with development, but my skills are pretty weak on the programming side of things. I would be happy to help test and such when you get to that point though.

Well I qualify for everything but graphic artist. I have been told I am graphically challenged.

Re: Any developers out there?

I'm intrigued. I'm a Java developer by day, but have been wanting an excuse to learn more C#/.NET stuff.

P.S. I really hope this has something to do with updating/replacing BM. I'm in the camp of "really wanted to like it" and have been (im)patiently awaiting the promised BTV/BM integration.

Papa,
You might want to voice your opinion of BTV/BM wishes in Brett's unofficial poll here

Re: Any developers out there?

I would like to help out where I can with any plugin work. I'm afraid my time is a bit limited but I think I can squeeze in a couple hours a week. I, also, hope this is an attempt to revive BM. I bought BM because I was impressed with how clean the design was and the ease of developing plugins.

Count me in.

Edit: I've done web development, and I'm in the beginning stages of a BM plugin, but am experienced w/ .NET.

I do PHP/MySQL web development. I am fairly adept at 2d/3d graphics design as well. I am already creating a website for BTV/BM plugins at www.beyondhtpc.com which will be done this time next week.

Thumbs up Re: Any developers out there?

Ok... guys here's the scoop...

As it has been guessed, I am in the initial planning stages of developing an entire GUI replacement for BeyondTV & BeyondMedia. It will use the underpinnings of the BeyondMedia API engine to allow quicker development, as well as support for existing BeyondMedia plugins.

However, it gets "slightly" better. Not only am I planning a project that will completely redo the entire GUI, but the goal will be to include as much as possible the "interface-related" features requested on that poll mentioned above.

Furthermore, I am looking to use SourceForge or a similar website to maintain the open-source code for all developers.

Initially my role in the project will be to design the skeleton functional layout. I am a little rusty on my coding, but I'll likely help with the screens there as well.

Please understand, that I make this promise with the understanding that part of it is out of my control. For this to really work, I will need an army (as posted here and privately) of developers working to the common goal.

Furthermore, there is a limition. As I put out in my "call" for help we will need atleast one network guru (ideally familar with the BTV API). Without said person, the project will not be able to work on client boxes.

So rejoice fans! It may not be the way your were asking for integration, but it is "unofficially" coming!

Developers who posted here and privately, I will be contacting you guys in the coming days with ideas on how we can organize our thoughts. If your no longer interested thats fine, but please note once it gets started I need people who are serious about reaching the end goal. Furthermore, I am of the belief the "more the better" so additional developers are invited to join.

And before anyone ask, I will let you guys know when we need beta testers . And its not going to be today, tomorrow, or even this month.

I gotta say, this makes my day . I've been looking for a viable replacement for Beyond Media, but keep coming back because of DVD Library and BTV (wife and kid won't ever let me leave BTV ya know). It will be hard to wait that long so keep us lowly non-programmers updated on the progress.

Thanks Brett and be sure those at SS know how important this is to us. I know we forum users are a small piece of the customer base, but I know this would be a step in the right direction for the users as well as SS.

Re: Any developers out there?

Sorry in advance for so many questions.

By the way, are you doing this for fun or are you on SS's payroll???

Would this new gui replace the old one or would it be an alternative to SS's current one - sort of an open-source option?

Does this involve re-inventing the wheel or are you talking about using a current gui and modifying it? I ask this because of the incredible work this must involve if we are talking about starting from scratch.

Is SS supporting this in some way?

Ok. I'll stop hassling you. Thanks again,
Brent

Re: Any developers out there?

What do you mean by "network guru"? I've done client/server socket programming with winsock before. Are you talking about setting up a client connection to BTV like BTV link?

Can't you "simply" convince them to make BM open source instead of trying to reinvent the wheel?

Well, if you use DaWanderer's BTVLibrary, that stuff is already swept under the rug to interface with the BTV API... I would imagine that something similar can be done for the BM API, though I have never looked into it...
