Thumbs up Re: Any developers out there?

Hey count me in...Do I have to have BM?

If I help, can I get a copy of BM??
Maybe I should buy BM...Hmmmm.

P.S. Are you guys hiring?

Is this something endorsed and to be supported by Snapstream of just another community project? I'm asking because if this becomes a level of "hacking" to get integration, it is likely to break with each new releases of BTV.

Its not endorsed by SnapStream, but its not hacking BTV either. Its using the BTV API, the same API used to create BTV Link.

The only "hacking" will be replacing the main screen on BM. And I am not to worried about that functionality being broken.

I've got a half-dozen PMs and questions to respond to here, I promise I will get to them guys still trying to iron out all the plans. I think an army of developers might be a reality

Re: Any developers out there?

I went to look at the BTV SDK last night. In order to use the Link connection to BTV, we need a license key right? Would we be able to use the key that comes with our BM software or the BTV key? Or would Rakesh give us BM/BTV upgraders a key to make up for not doing the integration himself?

How will you be working around the requirement of a seperate license like for BTV Link?

Snapstream already mentioned that BTV 5.0 was in the works. Do you have inside knowledge of the API of BTV5 so your project can be ported? I'd hate to have this integration to then have to abandon it when 5.0 comes out.

Re: Any developers out there?

There may be more people that work on this project than develop for SS. Difference being SS guys are working full time while it's an extra/side project for this team.

I concur that it will be important for this to not vary so much from what SS is doing that the next version doesn't play nice with the modifications. Otherwise this would all be for not.

Starting with BTV 4.0, the license key requirement was dropped when using the BTV API. Now weither that applies to what Brett has in mind too, I don't know.

Based on the release notes between BTV's version, that doesn't seem to hard to reach... <evil grin>

Re: Any developers out there?

Brett,

I think we need a SourceForge site or at least a temporary wiki set up so that we can discuss ideas.

For example, my understanding is that this UI would be a replacement for BTV/BTV Link's UI as well as BM's UI (one UI that performs the functions of both). This would also give "link" functionality to BM, which is another thing I have been wanting. But, that would possibly require another server backend to support functionality that BTV Server does not have.

I also think that plugins need to have the ability to "modify" existing features/plugins, not just add things. Not to mention that everything outside of the framework should be done as a plugin.

I have lots of other thoughts, but we really need an organized place to put ideas and discuss them.

P.S. I have not idea what you mean by "network guru", but I've written cient and server side SOAP code, applications that use sockets to communicate using a custom protocol, a lite web server, etc. I do not consider myself a guru, but I know enough to use the BTV SOAP API's (three acronyms in a row! woot!).

Re: Any developers out there?

Hey guys,

Quick note. I have made a new proposal to Rakesh that may make this project even more exciting. It is going to be a couple of quiet days, but I'll keep you posted with new developments.

Thanks,

...oh you want details? Well... I am limited in what I can share. Putting aside some redtape, I did officially get offered what I wanted from Rakesh, and trust me it was a big deal. However, I changed my mind and came up with a much better idea. I promise I am doing the right thing.

I am fighting for you all!
