BTV on Direct TV Newbie

About to switch from Charter Cable to Direct TV. I currently have just one card in a machine for recording the cable. What am I going to need to do the basics, that's all I'm interested in!!!, to record shows? I have the 150 for MCE (I think that is what it is called?), firefly remote, yada, yada, yada.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

Its actually fairly straight forward. You will need a usb-uirt to control your directtv box. Just plug the RCA outputs from the dtv box into the rca on the pvr-150, run through the setup for btv and you should be set.

Im sure others will add more but thats what I did and its working great.

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

I have Direct Tv with two RCA receivers going to two PVR cards (one 150, one 250). I also use a Firefly remote. I chose to use a serial cable to change the channels. On the back of my RCA satellite receivers is a low speed data cable. one end has a db9 connector for the computer and the other end has a RJ6 connector. the RJ6 connector is the handset connector. IT IS NOT THE SAME AS AN RJ11.(Sorry to yell, but I need to stress that they are not the same size). The pinout is available somewhere here in the forums. I've had absolutely no problems with my Sat receivers behaving properly with this configuration.

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

I also use a homemade serial cable, got the wiring diagram from the SS website, http://www.snapstream.com/Community/...xternaltuners/ I took the plug from a handset of an old phone to get my rj6 connector. Works like a charm.

I also don't pay extra for local channels since I have a roof mounted antenna, I input my antenna signal into my coax and svideo and audio from directv into my pvr 250. I created two channel lineups, local ota and directv, hiding all unused channels and no overlapping channels, btv's program guide lists them consecutively (as well as my HD channels from that card) and automatically switches from coax to svideo input for hte appropriate channels. Basically I setup two inputs on my pvr-250, one antenna through coax with no external channel changer and one sateite through svideo with serial channel changer. I assigned the correct program guide to each, all is well.

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

My PVR 150 came with an IR blaster (on the same cable as the IR reciever for the remote) so no extra hardware needed. I just needed to go to hauppauge to downloaded the newest software for the blaster to support the direct tv D11.

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

Bought the USB-UIRT mentioned in the forum. Does anyone know if there is a known problem with it being used with the D-11 receiver? If so, can anyone recommend a "reputable" place to get a D-10 receiver? I've seen some on E-bay for 5.99-9.99, just didn't want to get somehting I don't need or that won't work!

Thanks

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

I have a direct tc d10 that i was going to hook up but never did . You can have it for $8.00 plus the postal rate (probably less than $8.00).

this unit does not have the card but I think you can get one from direct tv when you sign up.

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

Thanks for the offer, but I contacted the supoprt for the US-UIRT and got it all to work. I may need another reciever, though, but I think I need a card, also...right?

Re: BTV on Direct TV Newbie

Just wondering how your switch to Direct Tv went. I switched from Cox to Direct Tv about four years ago and I haven't regretted it a bit.
