SnapStream review from a new user

I've been hearing about snapstream for a while and it would definately fill a need I have as far as viewing TV in rooms where I don't have one. I got a little discouraged reading all the posts here about the problems and support issues, but I still decided to check it out. I have read about the ATI Rage Theater issues, and have an AIW 128, so I didn't count that against SSPVS as it's problem I knew about beforehand and is being worked on (I assume).
I wrote up a review of my experiences on my web site at http://yakk0.org/. Overall I was pleased, but the ATI issue is preventing it from being what I need. Once that is solved I'm sold on the product.

I find snapstream a very difficult program to use. very convoluted. LOTS of questions on this board from smart people imply "stay away". Still haven't figured out how to make the program guide to work in windows xp, even after opening the port mentioned in one of the errors i got. still haven't been able to manually "just record something" without using the programming guide. how long does one need to hack away at this program before loosing patience and usin a good 'ol vcr?? and to top it off i get a nagging "register me" message each time i start?! might not be long before this puppy's uninstalled forever......

Perhaps you could detail your problem further. What are your system specs? what OS? Tuner card? Have you recorded anything successfully? Did you try opening another browser and go to www.titantv.com to access your program guide if its not working from inside snapstream? What does your activity log say after you "try a manual record"? You can access your log by right-clicking on the PVS tray icon and selecting view activity log. You can get to a manual record by clicking on record, and it is an option listed under the tasks menu.

I didn't have any of the problems you mentioned, although I was running it on Win2k. I read all the pros and cons on the message boards and ended up with exactly what I expected to work working and what I didn't expect to work didn't (the ATI AIW 128 issue).

not to sound like a smarta**, but did you read the readme or the docs? Although it wasn't easy at first to figure out some things, a few quick trips to the documentation and I had everything up and running.
Also, the nag message was documented a few times and it's perfectly acceptable behavior for a shareware program. The registered version isn't supposed to have the nags (hence the purpose of a nag message, to get you to register)
