Help for a newbie.

Ok, I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but I'm hoping that you're not totally bored with it....

Where do I start?

Basically, I want to record my favorite episodes of TV shows and burn them to CDs that can be read in my DVD player. I'd also like to transfer home videos to CDs (VCDs) and also play them on the web.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

although snapstream is an excellent product, windvr or powervcr might be a better option for you if you see yourself burning to cd very often. those 2 programs record natively to mpeg compatible formats which vcd's and dvd's use. anything recorded by snapstream is in windows media format, which has many merits, but would require a time consuming conversion for every file that you wanted to burn and play on a stand alone player. snapstream has many features that those other don't, such as remote control of all aspects of the program, from playing files over a network, to configuration of how programs are recorded, to setting up new shows to record, all in one seamless interface. Those other programs are simpler and you effectively have to be at the console to setup shows unless you pay more money for remote control software. With all that said, you need to figure out where your priorities are and go with the program that addresses them.

You can also use what I use.

TMPGEnc (www.tmpgenc.net)

Convert the wmv file to an avi/mpeg1/mpeg2 format. I convert it to MPEG1 and then edit what I need and then burn to VCD format to play in my DVR (SVCD is a higher quality MPEG2 format).

You can also go to www.vcdhelp.com and there are detailed instructions on what to use and how to use it.
