Viewsat FTA

I was using Snapsteam with PVR150 and a dish 301. And my Hauppauge 45 button IR remote worked well with Snapstream and the 301.

I have retired the 301 and replaced it with a Viewsat VS2000 Platinum (for charlie). I cannot find a code to work with snapstream or viewsat for the Hauppauge remote. Does anyone have a code that would work?

Maybe a USB-UIRT would work? Would that give me back my keyboard control of Snapstream (to turn channels and control volume) and the remote control of the Viewsat ?

Technology is going by me fast, so please be gentle. I do learn well.

Find info on Viewsat at viewsatusa.com

Thanks

Re: Viewsat FTA

I'm using a USB-UIRT with my ATI TV Wonder remote.

I have a viewsat platinum.

I just had to teach BTV the remote codes of the viewsat, then I was off to the races.

Works well and reliably

Re: Viewsat FTA

Thanks bradpvr
I've been missing "turning my channels" for a while now. So I guess I'm buying a USB-UIRT. Did you get all the buttons on the remote learned or are there still some dumb buttons ?

Edit:
PS I looked at the USB-UIRT website and they off an optional 56khz sensor. Do I need this additional option for the viewsat?

Re: Viewsat FTA

Hey

To be honest, I don't know if you need the 56khz is required. I don't think so.

I have it only because I DO need it for my Expressvu dish.

I didn't learn all the buttons on the viewsat remote because I only needed the numbers.

I guess if I wanted the other buttons, I could learn them and fire them via Girder, which would work.

I'm probably going to be buying another viewsat soon, I'm getting gready now

I just wish there was an FTA box that did HDTV!

Re: Viewsat FTA

I sent an email yesterday to Hauppauge to ask them to update their IR Blaster codes with viewsat. Here is the ressponse...

"At the moment we actually don’t have any ViewSat boxes compatible with our IR blaster as of yet. I’ve put it on the list for the next available update, but not sure when it will be released yet."

So I quess if they update their codes, there won't be a need for usb-uirt. Maybe if a few more people ask Hauppauge, it would get done faster.

The expressvu 56K rumour has been spreading rapidly.

I have Bell Expressvu (Canadian TV !)
I have the standard USB-UIRT [US$50]

..for remote control "learning" you might
want the 56KHz IR receiver version of the USB-UIRT.

but why bother when the USB-UIRT codes (for expressvu) have been posted !
Dual Tuner/Dual USB-UIRT

notice that all USB-UIRT's can IR Transmit all the way to 60KHz.

"learning" or "receiving" is cut off at 40KHz.

but it does'nt matter because the code files are available on the internet

so if you have Bell Expressvu, you can buy the standard USB-UIRT.

Well I _did_ need it, because at the time they were not posted

Re: Viewsat FTA

Brad, I'm just about to do what you've done... how do I go about teaching BTV the remote codes of the Viewsat remote?

Will it be simple once I get to that point?

Thanks!
Darren.

Re: Viewsat FTA

OT- I too have Bell expressvu (3 of them) and I have the basic USB-UIRT (without the 56 khz) and I can guarantee you that you that the basic USB-UIRT will work with any expressvu just fine. It is a myth that you need the 56 khz version.

What else did u get besides USB-UIRT in order to control 3 Bell Expressvu boxes? Did u purchase additional plug in emitter to control 3 boxes separately? If so what exactly did u buy? I am planning to get second FTA receiver (same model)…

Re: Viewsat FTA

This is what I wrote in an earlier post. It should help you :

There is a bit of confusion with usb uirt. I hope this will help grasp when and how many STB's can be controlled with 1 usb-uirt. Here goes:

Zones: You only need to worry about zones if you CAN NOT change your remotes frequencies for your 4 STB's. Some cable/satalite receivers remotes are stuck to 1 frequency. Therefore, when you change the channel with 1 remote, all 4 STB's will be affected. If this is the case than you set up your usb-uirt with 3 (max) zones. 1 zone is the usbuirt itself, zone 2 and 3 need an ir extender pluged into the mini jack on the usb-uirt. Then you stick those ir extenders onto the remote ir sensors of each STB. You also have to keep each machine very seperate so you eliminate crossing the IR frequencies. 3 STB max.

If you can change the STB remote frequency, then it's much easier. Change each STB (4) to a different frequency. You'll find it somewhere in the STB menu. Now, each STB can only be used by it's own remote. If you change channel with remote 1, only STB 1 will be affected. If you change channel with remote 2, only STB 2 will be affected, etc. All you have to do is go into the setup wizard and teach BTV all 4 remotes. Then aim the usb-uirt at all 4 STB. That's it. When BTV needs to change the channel on STB 1, it will use the codes you taught it for remote 1. Then only STB 1 will be affected. All 4 STB will receive the code, but only 1 will change. If BTV decides it needs to change the channel on STB 3, then it will use the codes that you taught it for remote 3 etc.

I hope this helps.

Re: Viewsat FTA

Yes, thank you, I knew about that… First paragraph applies to me, I am going to have 2 identical boxes without ability to force them to use 2 different frequencies and therefore eliminate need for IR “extender”.

I was hoping that you had to deal with the same problem, assuming that your 3 bell-boxes are identical and you might be able to suggest proven IR extender compatible with USB-UIRT…

I have 2 viewsat's, which obviously can't switch frequencies, and built my own IR emitters for use with the zone support of USB-UIRT.

It's quite simple really.
