The article:
"The NYTimes ran this story in today's paper about how to turn the PC into a personal video recorder (a la TiVo)... It's got pretty thorough coverage of PC-based hardware with the conclusion "the TiVo outshines the PC-based systems by being easier to use and by offering more built-in intelligence." Conspicuously absent are El Gato's EyeTV for the mac and SnapStream's Personal Video Station... Anyways, the real question is whether PC PVR will *ever* get there. No one does it quite right yet..."

my opinion on the above post by them is that companies like snapstream have a much harder job than tivo.. tivo is like a game console. the hardware is set, and the software has to run only on one set of video chips etc. with apps like snapstream there's a large number of different possible configurations.. many more hurdles before reaching the objective.

The slashdot audience is pretty demanding, also accustomed to getting software for free.

If it's business you want, you might be better off aiming the bar a lot lower.
