Post Snapstream idea

What if you had 2 tv cards in your machine, it would be cool if you could record 2 things at once. Or at the very least you would be able tow watch 1 thing and record another.

unfortunately, playback in SnapStream does not take advantage of hardware playback... so no, it wouldn't make a fig of difference in that regard.

IanR:

I believe you can run two TV cards as long as they are different models/makes. You can't run two of the exact same model.

What you should be able to do though is run a TV Tuner card and a video in board. Can't see why that wouldn't work. Take the comp/s-video out from your set top box / decoder.

If you have two devices that use DirectX it won't work. One needs to be a WDM driver and the other VFW. Then I think you have to make one use Direct Draw Overlay and the other Primary Overlay. Or something similar to that. Try to start a recording while watching something in media player on the snapstream machine. You will get an error cannot render preview pane. This is because the overlay surface is already used by media player even though you are not actually watching anything.

Funny thing is if you are already recording you can launch Media Player and watch anything. I've noticed this with my ATI TV Tuner. If I have a direct draw surface in use and launch my TV then I get an error. If I have the tv launched and then launch media player everything works.
