Bah!

<rant on>

As much as I hate Gator, (and that's alot)

I hope that they don't lose this... Maybe people will realize that advertising is not a 'free' model.

Advertising and marketing have driven the price of delivering a product or service through the roof. Advertising revenue is such a lousy choice for trying to make money, it makes me sick. And advertising on the web is useless.

I would rather pay a *reasonable* price sans advertizing for just about anything.

When it comes to the web, I never use my browser without Proxomitron, which strips out ads and popups so effectivly and unobtrusivly, I sometimes forget that it is there, unless I go to a computer that doesn't have it. Then I remember what ads felt like.

So I just laugh when companies attempt to use advertising to fund a particular business model. I mean didn't the internet bubble bursting teach these losers anything? a few thousand companies providng 'free' service ('paid' for by ads) going belly up . Hmmm I wonder.

I just can't believe that the original poster of this thread is serious. I mean what stops me from replacing his ads? My higher sense of morals? riiiiiight.

As long as there are idiots trying to shove more ads down our throats, there will be circumvention technologies:

1. ad blockers (proxomitron/junkbuster/guidescope)

2. Ad elimination technology (tivo/replaytv/snapstream/VCR)

3. Ad Advoidance technology (bathroom breaks, mute button)

well, folks, i think Garrett meant to reply to the other topic instead of starting a new one.. it was this one about the user wanting to replace ads with his own.

http://209.151.81.67/vb/showthread.php?threadid=470

yeah. gator is the devil. auto installing software even when you say no. in my DNS server, i've added entries for the gator.com and doubleclick.com domains to name a couple... whenever I see sites with ads from other servers I add those names in there too so none of these lame 15 pop-ups ads will ever load again.
