Yet more delays

<breathing heavy sigh>

Some of us waited all day to hear that it would be delayed yet again til the end of this week. It's a good thing I pay my utility bills with more sincerity than software gets released around here.

I've lost track of the number of times I've heard "It'll be released ..."

Folks, I've tried to be supportive in the forums and in private conversations, but my patience is truely being tried with all the setbacks.

If the end of the week release isn't met, I fear I'll be searching for other alternatives.

Julia

Julia-- as we said in our initial post, there will be an early release this week ("week of July 22" ie this week). we're still on that schedule. we will be releasing a "tech preview" at the end of this week and then beta 1 and beta 2 will follow after that.

I'm sorry, but I suspect that many like myself read that to expect a release on the 22nd (today).

Judging from the past week of posts, I think its been well understood by most that it would be this week. No need to re-light the flames again.

Rules of Programmer delivery dates:
---------------------------------------------

1. When a programmer says it'll be done on Friday, wait till Monday morning, as s/he will probably be working all night Sunday.

2. When a programmer says it's be done on July, s/he means July 31, unless that happens to fall on a Friday, in which case see first rule.

3. When a programmer says it's be done Q2, wait till June 30, where rule 2 kicks in.

4. When a programmer says it'll be done this year, wait till December, where rule 2 kicks in.

Rules of Project Manager delivery dates:
--------------------------------------------------

1. Double the length of time a programmer states it will take, and you will only be off by 2x. Then talk to the president of the company and get the "It's vital we ship soon" speech. Then go out and make up any date you want, hey, miracles actually DO HAPPEN !

Rules of Marketing/Sales delivery dates:
--------------------------------------------------

1. Next week ( which means --- by the time your check clears).
2. Soon ( which means --- I haven't got a clue and nobody is telling me).

------------------------------------------------
From me, a programmer who has been victimized by every rule possible.

Hey, I get it done when I get it done!

----Ken

Perhaps I should just go play with my toys someplace else.

I appreciate the recent increased level of communication from SnapStream. Namely, the chief cheese himself.

But you break every commitment you make.

Quartz was a product, then it became a beta, now it's become a tech preview.

And the timeline just keeps getting pushed out. So, the way you deal with that is: you release less.

Can I take a guess at the release date for the full Quartz version? It was supposed to be April, it will probably be November.

Just take in consideration that this version is a TOTAL rewrite. It's not just an update it's actually a new version. As we in the Snapstream.net have noticed sometimes the intial path isn't the one taken (talking about passport being dumped). This causes alot of code that was already written and time that it took to write the code to be wasted. Snapstream is trying to please you guys by releasing something instread of just putting it off. They are trying to work with you guys instead of ignoring your requests. Take it easy on them.

If it was going to be a complete rewrite and soooo complexed to turn out a good product to the end user, why not state that up front and keep the customer expectations in line with a real release. Tech preview, hehe.

I for one have already given up on snapstream (2 months back with the lack of patchs, very little tech support, besides PBMax , and missed release dates) I am just hanging out wanting the ever increasing number of other funstrated users.

I hope quartz is all it has been promised to be, but some how I doubt it. If it is I will post good reviews equally as much as I have posted these complains.

SO... here's the real question that I know EVERYONE is wondering about. (in the case of a complete lack of anyone else being on board with this one, everyone = me) Will this tech preview have the full functionality of Snapstream 2, but de-interlacing for 640x480 on the hauppauge cards working? say yes, and i'll prepare you a french delicacy... burnt corn flakes.

That's the point. Originally it wasn't going to be a complete rewrite. And it wasn't supposed to be complicated.

this is just a rumor, but the tech preview won't have the video capture features engaged.

Give it a rest folks. The people who paid for the current version are getting a complete rewrite for free.

I know the complaint from many of you is that you paid for SS expecting the full version to be out at a certain date but still, please don't turn every thread into a rant & moan discussion. You know the devs are probably working their butts off at this point and the hurtful posts won't help anyone.

snapstream 3.2 - harnessing the power of chickens.

oh dear... too much caffeine. i'm sorry, i'm just posting with the level of seriousness that this "i'm not sure how i'll occupy my lifeless existence until the end of the week when quartz is out' forum topic deserves. if they miss the end of the week deadline, so what... your view of them will still be the same.

Okay, I think I had better say something about this "Tech Preview" thing. This esentially is Beta 1, but we didn't want to call it that because we're not putting all the features into it that we're working on, just what's done. The problem is, if we called it "Beta", people would think that's all that Quartz would be able to do, and that there would only be bugfixes from there on out.

That's very much not the case, and also, we've had a philosophy shift around here- we've moved to a monthly public release model, starting with this one on Friday. That means that we will pick a set of features, design, implement, test, and release those features every month. Don't expect to see a link posted on the first of every month though, we won't post until we deem it bug-free (as far as we can test), but there should be a new download out there roughly every four or five weeks.
